Console Commands And Cheats

Post » Thu Jan 20, 2011 11:36 pm

So on my first playthrough of oblivion i was unaware of the console cheat commands, Though on my second runthrough id heard from friends that you can press ` click on an enemy and type kill.
And there you have it, the mass of temptation to use this cheat when im running low on health in a battle, Then i found tcl (noclip and fly) And every gate became no challenge at all
And then when i discovered coc testinghall it ruined the game for me, And i know this is all my own doing though it was far to easy to find out about.

Im glad i didn't know about this in my first playthrough but what im trying to say is i hope skyrim dose not let us into the console and give us the simple easy to remember cheats of oblivion, i really ruined the experience for myself.
Id like to hear everyone else's thoughts on the matter.

EDIT*

I understand perfectly why the console is there, Im jsut saying its a temptation to use it for getting out of tricky spots in the game. I liked Konijin's idea to have the option to turn it on or of when starting a game.

The command console stays. It's there for the modders to test things, as well as fixing bugs. It's not anyone's fault but your own that you used it to cheat and ruin the experience.

It's not a "cheat" feature.

I don't think removing it just because you lack self control is a good idea.

Though I sympathise with your position. I think perhaps you should have the option to turn it on and off at the start of every game.

This would perhaps be a far more diplomatic and fair solution.

You're going to get a lot of negative answers buddy, because you seem oblivious to one of the biggest modding communities out there.

The Console Commands are mainly for testing MODS. If you don't like it, don't use it.

EDIT: This poll is horribly flawed, people that use Console Commands are not cheaters, please research before posting. It helps.

No. Just no.

Console is an absolute must for me. I used console commands so much in subsequent playthroughs of Oblivion.

1. Don't do biased polls.
2. I only used console commands for testing and modding. I don't cheat. The console commands are made for testing and making the game. If you use them for your own personal cheating, then that's your problem. Console commands are necessary and won't go away because people can't resist using them for cheating.

Those console commands are quite usefull for those of us who mod. As well as they can help out on the ocasional glitch that sometimes pops up (in oblivion there was a mages guild quest wehre you got locke din a room and had to kill a guy, but sometimes he didn't appear so I had to use the console command to advance in that qeust and unlock the room) stuff like that.

So you want to punish the entire modding community, as well as those who use the console for roleplaying purposes, (such as playing a bandit and using the console to join the Bandit faction) just because you can't practice self control?

I defiantly did not say that I wanted to punish the modding community, I was asking the opinion of the rest of you, Im a 3D artist myself and plan creating many mods for skyrim.

Do you not understand technology in general? You can't have console commands on the consoles (ironic, huh?)

The console is a TOOL for MODDERS. Its also really, really important to have in casethe game glitches and you get stuck or a quest fails to initiate and work out properly.

I defiantly did not say that I wanted to punish the modding community, I was asking the opinion of the rest of you, Im a 3D artist myself and plan creating many mods for skyrim.

But you want to get rid of the command console, which will, in turn, punish the modding community. I've been working on a quest/dungeon mod for the past few weeks and I use the command console pretty much every time I go into testing.

By this logic, we shouldn't get the Construction Set either, because I could just go into it and make a sword that does 10,000 damage on strike in about 2 minutes, and that's cheating.

well if the cheat codes are on the computer one they should be on the Xbox game to cuz that's only fair.

Read the other posts on this thread. The command console is for mod testing. Xbox users can't make mods, so they have nothing to test. I also have no idea how it would even be possible to get it to work for the 360. I imagine it would break things more than anything else.

Its not a case of Fair or Unfair, Consoles are used for many things including modding and debugging, There is no ability to Mod And Console games the what you do PC ones that i know of
And they arnt Cheat Codes.

Your claims of knowing why the console is there is a lie, else you would not tie it in with cheaters in question two. Biased poll is biased.

I′ve often used the console, but always only on bugs and only when I′ve beat the game and want to have fun. If there is any bad temptation in the console it is to try and finish the game fast so I can allow myself to take nice pictures while flying. But I didn′t even have that in Morrowind because of levitation and Oblivion was short enough as it was, no need to "try" to hurry with it, it just happened.

I expect to see the console in Skyrim and I expect most of the commands to be the same as they were before.

But can't you just turn it on later and then uber yourself up.

Actually duplication is a glitch. Console was not created for cheat codes
