Console Commands release?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 5:16 am

Hi folks

So, console commands. Does BGS release them officially? How soon will we able to find out what they are - and how?

I'm specifically interested in the player.addspecialpoints and player.addperk options. What do you guys know/think? :)

Thanks!

PS. Please no talking about "cheating" and not playing the game properly.

It usually doesn't take very long for these things to be discovered

I wonder if they could incorporate console commands onto console.. Is it even possible?

The same goes for listings of perk ID's. :)

There was some discussion about this a while ago, but I forget which thread it was in. I'm not really a console gamer, but from what I understand, you can use a physical keyboard with the console? Which makes it easier than trying to type using the controller.

The command console is just typing... so I can't think of a reason offhand why they couldn't.

I don't see them going to the trouble of making an interface for it to reduce typing, but theoretically they should be able to simply enable it.

It is a question that's perhaps more "valid" than it might have been in the past, what with mods coming to consoles now.

I remember a tweet from Pete Hines saying that console commands won't be available in the game. Oh well it's probably going to be the first mod for the game :D

I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure people (including myself ) will be digging pretty quickly when the game is launched.

At all?! Really? Or is that just in regard to consoles?

If the PC has the command console disabled, I'd be pretty surprised.

That's crazy for a game like the ones Bethesda puts out.

There's more to it, than just removing consoles. It's more their choice that concerns me. No console, less player freedom. Is that the future?

Pinch of salt needed though as it is Hines answering. He may have been told consoles wouldn't get console commands and that's what he's misrepresenting. Would seem like a pretty direct question though. Can't understand why they'd do that when they're already giving us the Creation Kit to do stuff. And consoles are getting mods, why not let them have console command.

Yeah. Not to mention that pre-GECK and pre-patching, the console has been widely used for fans to help other fans with solutions when a quest is broken.

I think they should have removed it a long time ago. Now people are going to be upset hat its not in the game.

Either Pete needs to brush up on his reading comprehension, or needs to learn how to make his answers more clear since "no" isn't so helpful...but games by 9Bethesda really do need a functional command console to get around bugs and getting stuck. Here's to hoping Pete's answer was about consoles, because getting stuck permanently in the game is frequent enough and no fun.

If you'd read the other tweet someone just posted you'd see he responded, had misread and responded, thinking the question was only about 'on consoles'

I gotta give Pete a lot of credit. He's the PR/marketing head and shouldn't spend all day answering tweets - I personally feel that Bethesda's community managers could be much, much more active on Twitter and in the forums. That's what I usually expect from community managers. But Pete's out there answering tweets from fans all day. How does he get any work done? It's really great that there's a high profile person from Bethesda interacting so much with the fans.

The original question said "is the console command made available" - whereas I'd call it a "command console" on which you made use of "console commands" - so if those are Bethesda's terms, I can understand how Pete read it when he was trying to reply to lots of fan tweets quickly - and it's always a little confusing when you have a console on the PC but you have no console on the console

Thank you! All is good. :D

EDIT: So, now that we are back on topic - does anyone know how and when we'll be able to get the commands? :)

There are ways to cheat that get around a lack of console commands.

Try them when the game comes out? I highly doubt Beth just gives those out.
