Console games ported to PC

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 1:22 pm

There is a real risk in developing games for the console. The controls wind up being controller centric, and not ported well to the PC.

MGS5 TPP is a fantastic game, but it is seriously damaged in the PC implementation of controls.

Whenever the game gives you tips on how to perform an action, showing a graphic of a controller does not help.

Mouse and keyboard support really seems minimal. You can't use the mouse on the main menu screen at all; it is all the "1" and "3" keys.

What is the story on Fallout 4? Is it developed for the PC and ported to consoles, or developed for the console and controller and ported to the PC?

Being very happy with the Fallout NV keyboard / mouse interface, will Fallout 4 be as good?

what you describing isn't an issue with it being developed for consoles first, its simply the result of poor porting when preparing the PC version..

there are numerous titles made for Consoles first that were ported very well and do not share any of the issues you brought up..

rmm200 this is how this works,

Most games now days are developed for console, then a PC port is made.

Some games are developed for PC, the Arma games, some mmo's like WoW, etc.

Some games are developed for console AND PC. Fallout 4 is one of these games.

So to recap,

PC Game = PC Game

Console Game = Console Game

Console and PC Game = Console and PC Game

Console Game = Console Game that later has been carried over to PC = Port

Fallout 4 = Console and PC game = Better then a Console Game Port + Moddable.

So basically if a game is decided from the get go to be developed for Console and PC, especially both release on the same day. It becomes a Console and PC Game, not a Port. How good the PC version of a said game will be in comparison to its Console version? It all depends on the developers.

A heavily modded Fallout 4 might as well = PC Game.

Until PC games profits dwarf the profits from console games there will always be bad ports. Bad ports are a failure of development not a failure of this BS PC master race crap on Reddit.

You'd think some pc gamers are over compensating for something the way they go on and on about this. The game is feature locked, if you are worried don't pre-order the game (you should NEVER pre-order a bloody game. but that is another issue) watch some pc reviewers on youtube that you trust and make a decision.

Or do what Almost every other Bethesda PC user does and get mods that address any issue you are worried about. Almost no PC users complain about Bethesda ports because we all know it can be modded and Bethesda supports the modding community.

But PCs are still the master race as far as Fallout 4 is concerned. As far as we know, there is no way to create mods on a console.

Yeah this shows itself in many ways, like when you try to bind one key to a context menu and it stops working for some action skill you bound it to for the game screen. Or where you try to click and scroll though a game menu, and you have to use keys to switch through the icons instead of the mouse :sadvaultboy:

I really hope we don't get those things, surely by now they know we get upset with lazy programming like this?

Maybe they're referring to the almost required mods, like the unofficial patch that I have no doubt will fix many, many, many bugs Bethesda will never touch after the game ships.

Your comment makes no sense, if it wasn't developed for the console first, why would it need to be ported to the PC? Obviously, some will do it better than others and a poor port is certainly a major problem, but if had to be ported, it was designed for the console...period. Now if you comment is just specifically about the controller image in a PC game, then, yes, that was something missed in porting (assuming the PC does not have a controller enabled).

In general, the days of a game being build from the ground up for the PC (even MMOs) is over....it's a PC gamers lot in life to now have to figure out how to play a console designed game on their platform of choice. Just accept it and move on. (for the record, I'm a PC gamer).

Yup, we must accept it. I'm waiting for the days when console gamers get to make the same complaints about their games being designed for tablets and phones. Then they will know what it's like to be on the other side :).
