280x and 770 are pretty much on par. Same thing with 290/780. The 290s are slightly cheaper so tbh I'd go with them. And if you're a gamer intel is the way to go.
Depends of the budget you wanna have m8 , you can have better buck for the money pc or a way stronger one . Whats your budget gonna be and maybe we can post some ideas.
ps you really DONT need watercooling ffs
If you do go with the water cooling, I would suggest moving up to the H100i.
gpu: asus r9 280x
I just got mine yesterday and installed it, works great so far.
You should make sure that it will fit inside your chassi thou, it was alot bigger than my old cards (luckily my CM Haf is of monstrous size).
Im not so sure about the CM haf xb, if it will fit in there. You should verify that if you havent already.
Hmmm, what Benchmarks are you looking at?

The only beef I got with the FX-9590 is the double everyone else's power draw and thus the mandate for watercooling. Where the same $330 gets you a CPU that has less than half the power draw and could probably sneak by on the factory HSF (excluding overclocking). The fact that AMD is getting out of the enthusiast market makes their line of products even less interesting. If someone wants to build a AMD system as part of their farewell salute that's cool (thinkng of building a FX 8350 just for a side system myself). But unless their A10s show some real "ummphh!!!" soon. We're all going to be Intel
I would go with an i7 4770k. Last I checked it was the top mainstream processor and Intel is more stable. Thats just preference though, both will get the job done.
Im no authority on this, but from what I understand, youll get pretty minimal performance gains for the high end ram. Might want to look at some real world benchmarks before dumping a lot of money on it.
You are right. I refered to out-dated tech reviews. Looks like I mixed up things here. My bad.
ok, first thing on my mind... how much is that going to set you back. I got a prebuilt beast for a song and added in a great graphics card and It runs everything full load without issues.
My nephew pieced together his own rig and paid almost double.
Just curious...
This is some solid advice, pretty much spot on.
Just one thing to add, either step up the cooler to a h100i or go with an air cooler.
Most times it's hardly worth going with liquid cooling, unless you're doing a custom loop.
Noctua nh-d14 is a very good air cooler and would probably give you similar overclocking results with less money.
yea intel all the way. AMD has been running on brute force for awhile and they run hot.
ssds are so much money for what they can hold tho. I'm going to assume they'll get cheaper and bigger at some point down the road. You don't really need a dvd imo. You'll be cut off from buying physical games, but you don't really have to buy them that way anymore.
oh wait, I don't think you can install windows with a thumbdrive... well not normally, anyway. You'd need the dvd drive just to put windows on the machine. Or any other OS.

case to use is still open, id like to remove all the 3.5/5.25 cages and install the h100i at the front either as an intake or push/pull. is this possible? is there a particular case that would be needed? id prefer a med size case, that way with the cages removed it should be just snug instead of too spacious. only using an ssd so the cages arnt needed.

An List of prices and how good they are
Mine never runned hot oO What an junk of an "cooler" you have? Mine is temperature regulated. min. silent. max: an aircraft or so.
By about 5-7fps average. Unless the OP is going to be doing HEAVY video rendering, AMD is the best buy for the amount of money spent.
Currently intel is kind.
PSU Corsair (definitely go modular if you can it makes as it makes cable management much less of a hassle) I literally spent more time doing cable management on my current rig than building it because I decided to save a couple of bucks and not go modular......will never make that mistake again
RAM (definitely Corsair they are the only brand I have NEVER had any issues with short or longterm) next would be Kingston
MOBO ASUS or Gibabyte and pretty much nothing else
Soundcard (not really needed as the onboards on a good MOBO are good enough in most instances unless you have a really fancy 7.1 set up) This is assuming there isn't some weird issue like Oblivion had where it wouldn't even run without a separate sound card
Biggest case you can get. I am using an Antec 1200 or 1600 whatever the number was from 3 years ago with 7 fans and I can keep all of them on low setting so that they are barely audible.
CPU currently Intel is king from what I have read you can overclock it much easier and higher than AMD chips. This goes back and forth as I built most of my PCs in the early 2000s with AMD chips because at the time they were better at OCing and they were cheaper as well.
About the RAM.....GSKILL is the best, imo. Never had any problems with them. And then tend to be slightly cheaper in cost vs Corsair or Kingston.
I did a scan, so I don't know how proficient you are at overclocking and/or your budget. So, just a couple of thoughts.
I also agree that Intel is the way to go. The i5 is a great proc. If you want to do more things that could take advantage of more "cores" the i7 is also a good choice as it has more cache and Hyper Treading. That having been said, if you feel like overclocking, which I assume you do based on getting a water cooler, then make sure you pick up the K model that you can an overclock.
As for cooling, I've been doing some research into water coolers recently. I can't find the article right now, but for water cooling the NZXT Kraken X60 seems to be at the top of the list for performance and also being quiet if you want that too. I decided against water cooling because I have a rack of computers and I didn't want to risk water flowing down into another others.
I think AMD is a great card if you are building a HTPC and want 3D. They way they implemented 3D frame packing is so much better than nVidia. That having been said, I won't currently, buy an AMD card. Personal preference based on experience using both. Obviously, which brand you go with is up to you.
For memory 16GB is decent. I'm assuming your motherboard will have 4 slots. So, I'd suggest you get 2x8GB sticks so you can upgrade to 32GB in the future.
EDIT: Forgot to add- thumbs up on the Samsung SSD!
Good luck with the build!
