ex console guy, building pc

I only used them once and had to RMA it because it failed memtest when I ran overnight testing. At some point I might try them again, if nothing else if someone else buys parts for me to build their PC. I recommend stuff for people to buy but in the end I tell them to get what they can afford.......obviously because I want to make sure there is enough money left over for them to pay me. :tongue:

Regarding liquid cooling if you have a large enough case with good airflow and quiet fans I haven't found it necessary unless you are using two GPUs or are really overclocking the hell out of it. Currently I have an older i7 from a couple years back that I have OCd from 3.2 to 3.6 and I can go higher if I want but I haven't seen any need to. To be honest I didn't even really need to go past 3.2 for my purposes which is school homework and video games. The thing with liquid cooling is that if your have an OCd system and your pump goes...........you are [censored] in the ass unless you catch it right away. If one or even two of my fans go out its no biggy as I have some leeway.

If you're going to buy a PC get a motherboard supports SLI or XFire. You can always add a second card at a later date. Get an Intel i5 if it is in your budget. AMDs are cheaper and decent, but the i5 is way better. If you have any $$$ left get a SSD. I've always bought Kingston HyperX RAM. Kingston is an established company with great support.

No clue @ the case, I usually use 4u or 6u server chassis. -ugly but built like tanks and have decent filtering usually.

But @ the rad push/pull is ideal. If running only 2 120mm fans on a dual rad I've had best luck using them @ pull.

@lamprey

The NZXT Kraken X60 is bad ars - its the only prebuilt wc setup I would even consider. But tbh I'd prolly just toss on a Noctua NH cooler. Less install hassle, similar temps and noise of the h100i and x60, cheaper and no water worries. I'm lazy lol...

@Neurolect: I went with a Noctua myself. ;)

yups :wink:

I did the water thing with a full custom setup and separate loops/pumps/rad @ vid/cpu for ages. But once intel's started cooling down a bit and air coolers suddenly became worth using I went back @ air. It just works, no hassle = more game time.
