Console players: is fallout on the console enjoyable?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 7:55 pm

My first post on these forums was asking if my PC, which is dated, was capable of running Fallout decently. My post was moved into a different thread and I got tons of replies and responses, so thank you to the community!

I do have a PS4 and I was contemplating just getting fallout for the PS4. I don't use mods and I'm not a graphics hungry guy so a PC isn't a must for me. I just like the "freedom" a mouse and keyboard offer.

So I guess my question I'm asking consoles players and even people in my situation (played on PC now / maybe will play on console): do you still enjoy the game on your console as much as you did on the PC?

Also my only concern is aiming. I know FO4 isn't Cod or Battlefield but I'm confident enough playing FPS's like that with a controller. I don't use VATS; at all. So I'll play it in real time.

well for me, with fo3 and fnv, i had the sensitivity turned all the way up and it was still slow. But with f04, having updated fps aspects, i think you ad i both will do just fine. Skyrim was more quick that 3 and NV so im 99% sure aiming will not be a problem on console. I have a ps4 aswell, and if you're still contemplating, you can pm me on the forums and ask for my PSN name and ill give you the low down after release, or on here. I'm not a big VATS guy either.

Yes.
And most people find it easier to transition to controller from mouse/kb than vice versa, so it shouldn't be awkward for you.

The game will also likely have options to set the camera/aim sensitivity, so you can change it to suit your taste.

I've played Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas on pretty much every platform and the game is pretty much the same no matter what. Of course, I prefer my PC, but I've also invested in the hardware and I really enjoy graphics mods. If you're worried about performance and you don't enjoy the benefits PC offers, I'm sure the PS4 edition will suit you just fine. As far as FPS aiming mechanics, console shooters all have some degree of aim assist to compensate for the lack of precision vs. a mouse and keyboard. I would imagine Fallout 4 would as well.

I'm getting both the PC and PS4 version. While the PC version installs/downloads I will be playing on the PS4. Plus, sometimes I like to chill on the couch and put my 54 inch TV to good use. I played both FO 3 and NV on PS3, and it was fine(besides the crappy bugs that his PS3, which supposedly should be fixed with next gen consoles..hopefully).

This is my first Bethesda-game on a console. I've played a lot of games on my PS4 so I don't think I'll care so much on where I play. It's gonna be just as fun on PS4 as it would on my PC.

Like i said, watching the teasers/ trailers for the game, I'm guessing the "aim assist" and "aim or look sensitivity" sliders or selects will exist. If the case, i will not have aim assist, and i will increase my sensitivity. The only fps game i have for PS4 right now is Destiny, which in my opinion should have the "aim assist" selector.

Yes.

I've been playing fallout and tes games on consoles (since im primarily a console gamer) for a while now.
I put many many hours into fallout 3 and I put many more into new vegas. I still play nv and plan to do a new play through. There's just too much enjoyment in those games for me even without mods, Though it would have been cool if those games had mod support on the last generation consoles.

I played Morrowind on the Xbox and Fallout 3 on the 360; all I can say is that once I went PC (during my days of having no side panel on my desktop so I could game and disperse heat!) I could rarely play Bethesda games on console.

Good luck, though, my friend.

As always guys thank you for the responses and replies. I even asked a lot of my friends who are going to be getting the game and every one of them will get it for their console (All PS4 as far as I'm aware) I think this may mark an end of my PC gaming days but judging by both this community's responses and my friends' I feel like I'll be able to enjoy my Fallout experience regardless of where it is played from. Cheers fellas!

I've always played Bethesda games on consoles then moved on to PC later on for mods. I'd say if you're not used to using a gamepad then you'll have sone trouble for a little bit but other than that it's pretty much the same.

Yes, I have a high end PC so don't any of you try that pc vs console bs with me, it will fall on deaf ears.

This is related to the XBox One controller, but I expect the answer would apply to the PS 4 also.

My really awful problem with my controller is terrible overshoot when aiming in Fallout NV.

Least tap on the right stick moves the aim point from the far right to the far left, totally missing the target.

There is no way I can slightly tap the right stick to bring it back to the target - it overshoots in the other direction.

All controls are set to default in the OS. VATS works fine.

What do I want to do - reduce the sensitivity in the game controls?

Are there any other adjustments that would help?

I never seemed to have any problems with Red dead on the XBox, but this is "different" on the PC.

Ps3/Ps4 here.

Just finished with FO:NV

It froze more than Skyrim does. I have the latest version of PS3 so most memory.

It froze 5 times in a two hour session while trying to end game.

I have not tried Fallout 3 on it recently.

I prefer leaving my pc alone and I like the controller and the big tv screen.

I like that I don't need to update or upgrade my computer because I am playing on my PlayStation.

One dear to me also has an Xbox 1 in addition to the two I have mentioned.

-edit-

If it runs well, I would say yes to console. Not everyone has thousands of dollars to hand to randomly update a pc that is otherwise running fine.

I only care about face and how it looks.. I care about vibrancy.. I only miss those two things in Skyrim.

I don't need a ton of mods.. Consoles are not built for them anyway.

For games like Fallout, I use a usb controller because I cut my teeth on Bethesda games on console. I find the mouse/keyboard akward, and the controller more comfortable. Personal preference though.

The games play great on console (ps4). Ive never had a problem with any of them. I used to play them on PC, but I would get mods and just do stuff to see the mods work, if they even did. Never really played the game for what it is on PC. On console, i just play. Dont worry about how i can improve something. Only good experiences with console for me.

Yes, it is enjoyable in fact for me is far more enjoyable experience. And I have all games for pc too. But nothing for me compare with a big hd tv my couch and my sound system and a convenient console buttons and remote Without have to use wasd to move and that terrible keyboard mouse. also easy configuration no more my x isn't compatible with I. But many people think otherwise, so it's up to you.

When Oblivion was released I got a Xbox 360 to play it as my PC couldn't run it at the time, same for Fallout New Vegas, Same for Skyrim> I did get them on PC afterwards and must admit I like them more on PC simply because the use of the Command Console and mods make the game ultimately tweakable.

But yes, the games were definitely enjoyable on consoles and I poured 100s of hours in to each before getting them on PC and pouring in 100s more

Not all of them do, and the ones that do most you can turn it off. I hate autoaim. Messes things up more than it helps.

Yes, reducing the sensitivity the X-axis is where you want to go. If you have the same issue up and down, Y-axis as well. Also check to see if video settings to reduce screen blur, for game, system, and tv (if any of them have that).

Red Dead had a big time autoaim if you set it on, all of the Rockstar games do. It was also a different aiming style.

Console player myself. I used to play PC games years ago, but I'm so used to the controller, m&k feels weird to me. Plus, less buttons to memorize.

With the new Elite controller, I'm expecting this to work even better with the game.

Slot 2 is on reserve! :)

I have searched both in XBox Controller setup and in Fallout NV settings.

I can't find any way to vary the sensitivity on X or Y axis - any clues where to look?

Might have to wait until next week and see what the Fallout 4 settings look like.

Fallout NV does not have "Video" settings; just "Display", and that only covers things like fades.

Would these be in an ini file by chance?

OK - GeForce Experience gives access to a ton of video settings - but nothing related to a controller.

Usually in the game you might have an option to adjust the controllers sensitivity. I usually tone the settings to the lowest settings and usually that is still not enough for me.

To me all of Bethesda's games are very fun to play on consoles. (I exclusively plkay console though.) If any game isn't good enough or fun enough to play them in default form then I just don't wastemoney on em and luckily Bethesda is one of the companies practically guaranteed to suit my tastes with their new games.
