Its a shame there is no platform named PC................. I wonder what people are taught in school to belive that.
On what you think is PC, there is MANY platforms:
*GNU/Linux
*FreeBSD
*Windows
*OS X
*Solaris
*And lots of more

Windows runs on x86 arcitecture. And we are also currently moving towards 64-bit, we are on 32-bit. Before that we had 16-bit, and 8-bit before that.
Most game consols that are not handheld is using PPC. ARM is commonly used in cellphones.

I think that the game should support Windows, Mac, GNU/Linux. Porting to several platforms usually ends up finding more bugs then just porting to one. Unless there is a really big problem with the undrelieing engine(locked to Windows?), it should be done.
There is also the myth of that having an app on several platforms is a lot of not-needed mess. But thats again not true, its done in 5 mihokers if you bothered to not lock yourself onto 1 platform when making the app.

Generally when we're talking about what's going down while mixing the subject games and platforms, developers enjoy leaning towards the directX sdk's that microsoft provide to speed up the development process (time=money). This means that almost always in general discussion we're talking about windows for platform (often cross-compatible with xbox-360 like fallout3), especially when nice graphic engines are involved.

Also, is it just me or is it absolutely necessary for almost everyone to pick statements apart trying to belittle the poster in hopes of appearing more intelligent than them? If you don't understand what the person is trying to express, your two cent arrogant comments don't help them learn a thing, they just make you look like someone who was picked on in highschool and is now trying to get revenge on their bullies through random, anonymous, and unrelated victims.

Nah, i disagree. Its not faster at all to use Direct X, and it would be useless to even use it if Windows did not have a < 70% share of the OS the desktop marked. The biggest work is the engine, if thats scratched the actuall game and optimisation and that stuff is all that is left.

I have yet to se a benchmark for D3D vs openGL that ends with neither of them being better than the other performancewise. For openAL vs DirectSound, a few developers swears to openAL.
There is no proff on that either is superior last time i checked however....... But DX is locked to 1 platform(Windows, and its PPC gaming consoll which is the same platform), which in itself makes it a bad choice if you want to earn money.

But since gamesas already got an engine, the real question is what it supports. Until somebody in the staff tells us that, it will a kind of pointless flamewar.
A suggestion is if the engine turns out to be windws locked:
*Make it wine-compitable instead of creating a halfassed port using cedega.

PS: always fun with free-flaming forums :P

A console release would be impossible to do as gamesass contract with the OC states specifically:

* No single player or offline mode in any way.
* Must be for PC or Mac only, no ports to console whatesoever.
* Minimum of 10,000 monthly subscribers.
* Furthermore, gamesas must enter "full-scale" development of the MMO with a minimum of $30 million in funding by two years from the signing of the agreement, or it immediately forfeits its rights to the license.
* gamesas may not sublicense any part of MMO development without (OC) approval.
* The MMO "must meet or exceed such quality standards as may be set by (OC) from time to time" in order for gamesas to remain in good standing, and (OC) has the right to inspect gamesas's offices and development progress at any time during normal business hours provided two days' notice is given.
* The company must launch the game in North America and Europe within four years of that development commencement date, with the potential for a one-year extension if development is progressing adequately, giving the game a final release date limit of April 9, 2014
* In return for granting gamesas the MMO rights, (OC) will receive royalties of 12% of sales, subscription fees, or other revenue generated by the game.

For one the whole Windows vs Linux debate is old even if you are picking it down to the bone of DX3D and OpenGL. The fact is Windows too does have that 70% share as you say and thus makes it prime to port the game on cause its a huge billboard of people. The PC not being a platform is beyond me especially if you look up the term in the computer world, a platform describes some sort of hardware architecture or software framework. Including a computer's architecture, operating system, programming languages and related runtime libraries or graphical user interface.

Whew! Now that all that is said and out of my system. For the one dearly wanting an answer I can tell you that there is nothing wrong with an MMO on a console and yes its been done. Has Final Fantasy XI Online come to mind? It started on the PC and a year later hit Playstation 2 and lastly Xbox. Now what makes it great is not only is the company making money from all three platforms but also all three platforms were set to run on the same servers. PC gamers can play with console gamers! It broadened the world greatly and new friends could be made with ease.

Console can handle games just as complex as PC now a days. Final Fantasy XI Online PC and PS2 version had not one feature taken away. They were intact to be the same as a keyboard and mouse can be used by consoles. So the old age "PC is better than Console and Console is better than PC" debate is long dead. The gap closed quite some time ago and the lands should be peaceful finally among the gamers. I for one remember a time without my PC and had only my NES to bestow my entertainment. I grew up on consoles and arcades. Who still remembers the arcades?!

So worry not of which platform the MMO will be on. As PC is a given and if brought to other systems then please by all means do so. Peace and Serenity is within reach. Image

I hope for a PS3 release, there have been a lot of announcements of MMOs in that platform, and please gamesas release it on Mac, we need it! Like Spore/The Sims 3 (sorry for going a bit off-topic but it's just to explain), the same CD/DVD can work with PC and Mac. Image

Here's hoping for a Beatles-themed quest on V13.

Yep that is true but physical media has nothing to do with the program itself. Though it shouldn't be too hard to port to Macs these days as they run on Intel platforms now and run under Unix. Image

I just want to give my opinion that a console version would be great, especially if it connects to players from all platforms. The argument of "there are no other mmorpg's for platforms is very valid. No competition!! Be the first!

Actually there are already some MMO's coming for PS3, but I don't care, I'd pay and play for this epic game. Image

i personally think if it were to go to playstation they'd most likely wouldnt allow monthly pay for play since that'd take away one of sony's selling points(free net play) but then again being an mmo they might allow it so who knows,it's almost garanteed to be pay for play on pc though since a good majority if not all(excluding maybe one or 2 games) are pay to play

I certainly hope that that is not the wording used in the legal documents: it could be read as meaning that gamesas is allowed to do either a "PC" (i.e. Windows) or a Mac (i.e. Mac OS X of some sort) version, but not both and never for any other operating system. I wonder what the legal definition for a console is...
