I am a ps3 user and absolutely loving this game and could see my self putting hundreds of hours into this game.

As the title states, is there anyone out there who has played both the console version AND played on ULTRA Settings?

Would the jump be worth $1000-1500 + investment?

What are your experiences and does it feel like an entirely new game, or should I save the money and just enjoy it on the ps3

If I was to do this it would only be a desktop to get more bang for your buck, and I would be a custom build on a 1500 dollar budget (Built several in the past)
I already have a 23 inch monitor and speakers... So i would just need the tower, guts and a keyboard...

I have a laptop now that handles minecraft and left 4 dead 2 (lowest settings, but gets the job done)
I also have a library of games purchased on steam for really cheap that I cant play on my laptop.

Over all it would be a luxury device, needed? not really
Can I afford it? thankfully yes at the time being...

I wouldn't upgrade just for Skyrim. Although if you did, I'm sure you wouldn't have to spend that much money.

i have both the console and PC version. If its worth it depends on your level of income really. For some 1000-1500 dollars is no problem. To others, it would be crazy. We really can't decide for you on the forums. And who would trust forum opinions (including this one) anyway?

To realize the full benefits of PC enhancements would probably cost upwards of $2k, close to $3k or more for a laptop, not $1-1.5k.

no console gamer here mate, but:

If you in your console are just playing games and checking out what's next then don't

If you want to play Skyrim for at least 2 years then get a PC and wait for the tons of mods

wait till the CK and when Beth finished patching the game a year or so from now. Then decide right now you will be lucky not to get CTD every 30 minutes like I do with my beast of a rig.. although buying a entire PC for one game isn't worth it now for BF3 and Skyrim is ok.

I can't give you any solid facts, but you'd probably only need ~$800 to play on highest settings.

What puzzles me is that you would base your decision on graphics settings, and not the main reason why everyone plays it on PC: mods. I have a pretty low-end computer that can run it on low settings, and I'm still happier than I would be if I had bought it on a console where I wouldn't be able to mod it to add all of the features that should have been in the Vanilla version. And all of the other wonderful mods that will be created.

Actually, you're pretty much looking at the same investment you made for your TV and your PS3. You can build a computer cheaply and still get great performance out of it. It's a myth that you have to buy an alienware or spend 1000 dollars on a computer to get a good computer.

In general, it might be worth the investment to have more freedom to your gaming. (Mods, dedicated servers for other games, etc.)

The only qualm i have for PC is as soon as you buy it you need better 2-3 years later. I prefer asus gaming laptops myself. They are built well for games. I own an asus laptop atm and I run the game great. The graphics and resolution is much better than console and the customization and fixes are so much better. PC is worth the investment, not just for skyrim but for all games. They aren't dependent so much on keyboard anymore. You can plug in an xbox controller into the USB and works just as well. Getting a PC I really recommend it over console. Can't decide I would go for asus for gaming.

Disagree I spent 1,200 and can play this game on ultra all maxed and I get on average around 50-60 frames in extrior cells you don't need a mega 3k computer thats bullcrap!
Also ya i made the jump from pc to console way back and now im back to pc again trust me it's way better now my xbox gathers dust. the mods make it the best in my opinion, plus theres games you cant get on a console like starcraft and dawn of war 2. ( obviously I know there a exclusives on consoles too i'm on my 3rd xbox and have a ps3, which is older then the 1st xbox,FAIL)

Agreed. Skyrim is not the PC breaker than previous Beth titles were. Being developed as they were for old consoles. To people without an uber PC, that is a good thing. I bought a new PC for Oblivion when it came out, glad I didnt had to do it again, just had to make a few upgrades.

If you buy from Dell maybe. Custom built PC 1-1.5k will get you a solid mid-high end gaming machine. If you're spending 2k on a custom rig you're starting to get into bleeding edge which is where your cost/performance starts to really suffer and is widely considered a complete waste. $1k will get you a mid range machine that will play any modern game at high settings although you'd be expecting to upgrade within 1-2 years to keep at that level. 1.5k would probably give you another year(2-3) without need of upgrading.

PC's tend to have a better gaming experience imo. Even if you can't play without a controller you can still plug your 360 or ps3 controller into your computer(I personally prefer mouse+keyboard for nearly all games though). nice thing about PC as well, specifically to skyrim, is mods... mods make base ultra settings look like low settings. They make the game look AWESOME.

go asus you wont be disappointed. You can probably get one around 1200 that does wonders.

A semi decent rig will run Skyrim well. I have a three year old PC, running on ultra with a few texture mods and generally get 40-60 FPS, except for 1 damned spot in Riften were it drops to 20-30 for no apparent reason. Also, keep in mind PCs are useful for things other than games.

PCs offer additional replayability through mods, consoles do not.

I got my first gaming PC for Oblivion. It is worth in that it is used for other games too. Also, look at the Steam website from ~12/23-1/2 for some good sales. I'd would be worth picking up a few things ahead of time if you decide to get into PC gaming, the sales are that good.

I'd wait until the spring, then Ivy Bridge [Intel CPU] will be out and the HD 7000 series will have seen a little price drop. There is no need to put big money on year old tech. Plus Bethesda should have seen to most of the bugs and the Creation Kit will have had some time with the modders... which is what Elder Scrolls on the PC is all about.

In addition, a PC will give you access to MMOs which are a few orders of magnitude better than any multiplayer on a console.

I have a xbox and a gaming pc which cost me 2 grand(3 thousand dollars?). TBH skyrim on the PC with everything maxxed out is breathtaking. The xbox doesn't come close. If money is no object get a decent rig and enjoy the immersion better.

It would be worth it to me. I switched from PS3 to PC for Fallout New Vegas and I'm glad I did because there's a bug in the PS3 game that a modder fixed for my PC version. On top of that, the graphics are better and I'm only on high settings for Skyrim. I have to investigate how I can upgrade so I'll have Ultra. Skyrim is that worth it to me. The bottom line for you is...what can you afford? Good luck...I hope you can do it.

Honestly, i have all game systems (consoles + pc), adn going from a 6.5 year old xbox to a brand new pc there is NO comparison. Take a game like skyrim for example; which feels like it was originally designed for a console with the crappy menu design; it absolutely shines on a pc as far as graphics are concerned. The draw distance is 5x greater then that of any console. Maybe when the Xbox 720 and PS4 come out you might see a close comparison.....until 3 months later when new hardware for pc comes out again and blows it away.

It depends, for me I am a PC Gamer it is one of my hobbies. I am not a Skyrim gamer, what I mean is I dont have a PC for just one game.
I also have an X-Box that I rarely play. If you can swing it, and foresee yourself playing other games besides Skyrim on it then go for it.
If not dont bother.

Go buy a gaming laptop at xoticpc.com... The one I'm using can run most modern titles smoothly at high - especially Skyrim.

It only cost me around $1k.

I also have a top spec gaming laptop but it isn't the same playing on a 19inch monitor as opposed to 28inch and upwards.

I'm thinking of getting something like this. More powerful than a desktop. I may wait until necessary though since i have a decent asus laptop at the moment.

However even if you get an up to date killer gaming rig, does not guarantee being able to play the game, as it detests large amounts of RAM and 64 bit OS...
