Consoles on 360

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:39 am

One thing that made me mad about the 360 version of Oblivion was that there was no cheat console. And, no, I am no cheater.

However, if you go to UESP.net or whatever, you find a roleplaying section, which lists a bunch of roleplaying ideas. Because I had no console, a lot of these ideas were difficult or impossible. Such as, for example, playing a guard. You could pretend to be a guard of a town, by dressing up in the guard garb of the particular town, and do what guards to. However, there was no way to enter cheats on the 360, no way to pay myself a weekly guards wage.

So, my question is, do you think Betheseda will proved its 360 and ps3 users with a cheat console? Two Worlds had one. Would it really be so difficult?

Probably not. Cheat consoles are like mods, something that just belongs specifically to the PC. It wouldn't bother me too much if it was in, but I doubt I would use it very much.

No, it would be easy to do and tons of games do similar things already. They should just add it.

Nope. You could add it to the already ginormungasasallhell pile of cool things things that may or may not work though.

Infact, the console commands are mostly for the purpose of testing mods.

Two Worlds one on the 360 had a console, it was even in the demo. But it didn't allow for as many commands as your average PC game console.

Pretty sure it's a Microsoft/Sony thing. They don't want people cheating to get achievements/trophies. That's the only reason I can think of anyway.

This. I use it more to troubleshoot things and test my mods than for cheating..

It should stay on the PC because the PC demographic has the highest concentration of People Who Know What They're Doing in terms of futzing with the stuff under the game's hood. The console is not a toy.

You'd think that but it's allure becomes nearly unbearable. Occasionally (this is after I had played the game with like 12 characters) I needed an item like garlic or something and I didn't feel like going to get some so I just punched in the item ID to make it quicker lol. Ignoring it is harder than it seems, it takes a lot of willpower and not the attribute.

There are no cheats. Morrowind did have 3 cheats on Xbox. It had a restore health, magicka, and a fatigue cheat. Console commands are modder tools.

Unfortunately they probably won't include this feature on console, not because it's too difficult to include, but because it's just not normally a feature on console.

A lot of the commands require ID names, anyways. That's not exactly readily available information. I suppose there may be a website out there with all the IDs listed (like the ID for gold), but if not you kind of need the construction set to find them.

It's not even a part of the game mechanics. It's additional, so why would you be too tempted to use it? Do you feel tempted to use cheats in other games, unlockable modes, and look up walkthroughs? It's just like that.

Well with the PC, it is just the tilda key so if they added it to the 360 it would most likely be one button so it would be basically a part of the game also.

Nonsense.

I play on PC and I don't feel the slightest temptation of installing mods or using cheats in my first full Skyrim playthough (and depending of how is the game, maybe not even with the second), mainly because I simply reject to ruin it. And besides, I've enough confidence in Bethesda that the Vanilla experience will be great (there won't be many mods worth of installing on the first days, and for a while anyway).

And for those who feel like cheating, remember that this is a open world...if you can't face a dungeon or a particular foe, leave it be and return later when you've levelled up, or you've learned/created a new, powerful spell or something. Easy as that.

I know right?

Get over yourselves.

That's just it, though. The console is NOT a set of cheat codes. It's a tool used for testing various aspects of the game. It's a developer resource, whether you're developing the game itself or just mods. Totally different from cheat codes.

It can be used for cheating, and just random fun stuff. It might not be useful on the console for mods and testing, but you can't do that without it either, so I don't get why it would cause a problem.

Whats wrong with having a couple of cheat codes?

I would like those. Instant magicka to test big spells... Infinate Sprint...

I doubt Bethesda will include a console on PS3/360 especially for people who want to pay themselves a guard's weekly wages. There is no real reason to have a console, and for some the temptation can be too great and it's use gets out of hand, potentially being game-breaking. PS3/360 gamers tend to be more casual, and there's little doubt that in the case of a casual gamer discovering the console they will use it non-stop.

I play Morrowind on PC, and after a while my usage of the console was just ridiculous. I'm not saying everyone becomes as tempted as I did, but it can happen. I'm back on track now, thankfully. Due to my outdated PC, I play Oblivion on PS3, and due to the lack of the console I enjoyed the game much more.

Btw, if you really want that pay, you can dupe an item and sell one weekly to simulate earning money.

That's the problem though, it's a bit too much power to wield, people always let it get out of hand. It's bad enough PC has it let alone have it on the console. The console is supposed to allow us modders to better test our mods yet those that can't mod just use it to make themselves gods (and some modders do it too <_< )

Also, I don't get the tension between console and PC. I play them both and I'm not tearing myself apart because I like both. I don't even take sides. The console has the controller and the pc has the graphics. I could care less about having mods, it's nice but it isn't a reason why I choose to play things on the PC. I mean, I only make myself a few mods and they are usually only adding new pieces of armor into the game to make myself look like I envision.

I'm not saying they could or could not add the console on the consoles. My point was simply that it is a tool. A tool that serves no purpose on the consoles. Sure, you could use it to play with things, but that's not the purpose of the tool.

Yah, two worlds was the biggest waste of money I've ever had. It actually depresses me when I waste money on a game I get like 10 min into and quit playing.
