Consoles Holding Skyrim back to it's full potential

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 1:36 pm

I Think The consoles are holding Skyrim and heck all bethesda rpgs back the game still make decent money with a PC only audience It just annoy me to see all that potential wasted on a console with a graphics processor weaker than my Nvidia 6800.

It's true, but basically we aren't allowed to talk about it. And it won't change.

Nice flamebait topic. Doesn't matter if consoles are holding games back or not, they won't stop making them for consoles as that would mean less money for a company that, unbelievably, wants to make money. No point complaining about it as it won't change. *Rolls eyes.*

Yeah, pretty much - but there's a strong console audience here, and any implication that the consoles are not strong machines tends to not go down well.

I don't think consoles are holding back Skyrim. I think it's more that Bethesda doesn't want everyone going out and buying new video cards and upgrading thier computers to play Skyrim, like how almost everyone had to get a new computer to play Morrowind and Oblivion.

It is nice to play new games without having to upgrade all the time.

it is sad that you would want to take a awesome game from others because you want your experience to be better

its not what held them back. it was BSG's time constraints I guess.

look at dice and bf3, they did not let consoles hold them back, yet the game is on all 3 platforms.

Yeah I have to disagree with you there to some extent. Without the console fan-base this game would probably have half of the development budget that it does.

Given that WinXP is still a very common PC operating system and it is limited to DirectX 9 I'm not sure how limiting console support really is. RAM may be a limiting factor and Bethesda's games do seem to push console's to their limits in this regard but that doesn't mean that a PC with more RAM won't have some benefit - certainly the load times on good PCs are often far better than what you get on a console.

Such comments aside, what you have posted RRR is really more console bashing and flame bait rather than an attempt at constructive discourse. Neither console bashing nor flame bait are appreciated on the forums so it's time to give this thread a lock.

As an aside, while a number of people have posted excellent points in this thread several have done little more than to say this will get locked soon, and posts like these are as unhelpful as the original topic. If you feel that a thread should be locked please report it, commenting to that effect in the thread helps neither the thread itself nor forum moderation.
