Consolitis

How about next time, you make the game for PC and then make the console version. Make the complete, optimized game for PC gamers and file it down for consoles later, that way everybody can enjoy it.
Do away with cells, bring better interface, and better graphics, and worry about accommodating primitive systems afterwards.

PC's update technology faster, have superior and more customizable interface, can use mods, and allow for more in-depth gameplay. It's fact. There's a reason Crysis wasn't a console game, and why Crysis 2 was so much crappier.
Accommodating dated consoles is dumb. Skyrim should have first been released PC only.

The worst part is the blatantly consolized UI which is terribly hard to circumnavigate with a mouse.

It's not worth the money, be happy with the game that Bethesda made.

I saw a pc gamer post something about not wanting to pay 60 bucks for Skyrim, because of the principle, when apparently hes earning £100,000
also most people I know who play games on PC steal them

this is probably why games are getting made for consoles more, they actually earn money from it, bethesda are a BUSINESS

Think its fair for PC players to ask the same. Really all they needed to work on was the GUI, not too much to ask for imo.

Do not think for a minute that it is harder to get pirated versions of a console game than a pc one. Couple of friends of mine had their game three days in advance of the release on the consoles. Piracy is a rather lame excuse for doing an entire port of a game from Console to PC and not adjusting things to work efficiently in the process.

This, OPs elitism aside console gamer's simply out number PC gamers, at least in the hardcoe kind anyway. (hardcoe being the ones with the actual know how to keep a computer updated to even play Skyrim)

A solution is to..well ether deal with it or stick to PC exclusives. I find that PC indie games are awesome, as is any RTS.

if it makes you feel any better, If they were to focus on next gen hardware, they would have to... focus on next gen hardware. They know the consoles well, and therfore focuses on a high content game and not an another oblivion for the next gen.

Perhaps you guys should go play some elitist PC exclusive somewhere else then? Not every has the thousands of dollars in disposable income it takes to update to a bigger better faster PC every 2 months. Im guessing thats the real reaosn PC gamers complain. They dont like that the poor people down the lane get to play the same games they do for a fraction of the total cost because they bought a console. But Bethesda wants to make money. And many millions of people have working concoles. Far few than the number of people who have thousands of dollars of PC hardware and can run Crysis 2 five times over.

Plus we don't own the next gen consoles yet. Not much money to be made making a game for the Xbox 720 or PS4 right now....

The worst part was the 'Behind the Scenes' video. There was a lot of WIP videos of the interface and some desks and they pixelated out all the (A) button type things on screen and any controllers on desks. So they were actively deceiving people about the amount of console influence in the game.

PC's have too many variables to optomize with all the different variations of Video cards, CPU's, etc. Consoles are stable across the board and more accessible, meaning a much bigger market. gamesas is a for profit company, not an entertainment fantasy charity group. they go where the money is and if you think about it id rather have gamesas thrive with money to continue to produce great games, than become than a tour de force niche game. You said it yourself computers update all the time, why bother trying to max out on todays systems when they wont compare to the systems that come out a year later? its just not cost effective.

poor pcnerds with their expansive machines :( cant be fun with exclusive titles like the sims and the counterstrike 1.6
there is no reason for Bethesda to aim at 10% of the marked.

$600 to play Skyrim on high settings at 40 FPS... not 'thousands'. That's barely higher than consoles (well when they were new at least).

The UI on the PC really is terrible... you have no idea how many times I have picked the wrong dialogue option because the mouse pointer wasn't accurate.

And this isn't PC Elitism, I own most games on the Xbox, but some games are simply better on the PC such as Skyrim.

The world built in cells is just the way that Bethesda makes games. There are a number of open world console games that don't use them. But Bethesda does - for any number of reasons, not simply "catering to the unwashed".

You mean like with a Windows OS or something? Because even PC gaming is tied to Microsoft in that way.

It might not be any more difficult to obtain a copy, but it's certainly harder to play it. You need a modded console, thereby invalidating any warranty, and also cutting off the possibility of tech support and a risk (or certainty?) of being cut off from online services like Live or PSN. There was an interesting if somewhat long-winded article posted around here some time ago which I will link to later if I can find it again. It was written by a PC gamer who looked at torrent downloads on the more popular P2P sites and in most cases downloads of illegal copies of PC versions were between 10-20 times those of console versions. So yeah, anyone who thinks piracy is a PC only problem is delusional, but people who won't admit that it is a far bigger problem on the PC platform are just as blind. Like it or not, developing for PC first (or exclusively) is just not economically viable, and while piracy is not the only reson for this state of affairs, it is certainly the biggest.
