SP: Constant Long Pauses/Freezes from start. Help!

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 2:24 am

Hi all,

I bought this yesterday, installed etc. But when I play, from the very start (even the opening scene underwater) it just keeps freezing for between 2-10 seconds, where everything stops, but the music keeps playing, then it all carries on again, for another few seconds, then freezes.

When the gameplay itself starts up, it plays ok for about 2 minutes until it then starts doing this wierd freeze thing again. Between freezes its running fast, and looking reasonably good, with no stuttering, so doesnt feel like the PC is struggling to run it.

I have an Nvidia 9800 and 3.00ghz duocore intel. I've tried reducing the graphic "options" (term used loosely with this game lol) but it makes no difference to this wierd freeze.

Anyone else had this and fixed it? I cant play at all as it is now :(

Thanks in advance.

I know that i read somewhere that texture streaming was disabled in Crysis so im wondering by chance if somehow you have a low amount of system memory and its having rely heavily on the paging file...hence the pauses....just a theory maybe someone else will have another idea. Please list all system specs and tell us if you have the newest drivers for video card/motherboard (chipset/sata/ide controllers)

Edit: I see you a said that the music keeps playing, in other words it loses sync between the graphics and the sound? do other recent games with similar requirements give these errors.

I have 4gig ram.

No, its not losing sync - I'm running through the opening scene building, the music is on, then it all stops, the screen freezes, the music carries on playing in the background, then after a period of a few seconds (sometimes longer), it all just kicks back in and carries on playing as though nothing happened. And it doesnt play slowly, it plays really smoothly and fast, until it all stops again for a few seconds.

I can play Crysis 1 on High, Rift on high, Bioshock2 on extreme etc and never had this issue before.

Windows 7 32bit.

No, I havent tried reinstalling. Not sure how the installation would have caused a freezing in game - surely it just wouldnt play? But I can give it a go and report back! :)

I have the same problem, jayanti. At least it's not so bad for me, the freezing usually occurs only at the beginning of every level, but after that the game runs smooth. As an example, if I look behind me very fast as soon as a new level has been loaded, there goes the freezing (it varies in length, can be 2 or 10 second freeze). It seems connected to when the game has to preload a lot of data, but I'm just guessing. Out of curiosity, when did you last defrag your hard drive? I did defrag mine ages ago, I wonder if that could be the culprit...

It doesnt feel like a data load. For example, right at the very start in the boat underwater, your in a room with a door closed. I swim along for 2 seconds, it all freezes for 10 seconds, then it unfreezes and the room is unchanged and I carry on swimming for another few seconds before it freezes again.

I havent got past the few minutes of the game due to this so far.

Defrag HDD - not in a few weeks now, but its not especially 'fragged.

I'm also getting freezing on sp. but it seems random. sometimes every 5 or 10 minutes it will completely freeze, cant even alt tab for taskmanager out. it will last up to a minute then move for a second, freeze again for another few seconds then unfreezes and it back smooth again for another while till it happens again.

I havent tried tabbing out to task manager, but apart from that, it sounds identical to my problem.

On the one hand Im glad its not just me, on the other...

Well, if anyone discovers a fix, do share :)

It might be your graphics driver crashing. When it happens again, try alt-tabbing to the desktop to see if there is a notification that your Nvidia driver has crashed.
Also, try using HWMonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html) to check if your GPU isn't running too hot.

I have mulitple monitors, and theres no crash warnings popping up.

I can play Crysis 1 with no problems, in DX10 mode, as well as other very graphic intense programs.

I tried turning Crysis 2 down to "option 1" GFX mode, but it made no difference.

p.s. Thank you for the help and suggestions so far :)

I am also experiencing this freezing issue and its random it seems :(, though it usually happens after loading a new level in single player. I use a GTX 460 with Overclock but even in its deafult factory OC the freezing still happens and my GTX 460 temps are nice. I had this bug only in Crysis 2 and hopefully a patch can fix this as it must be a Crysis 2 coding issue and not our systems.

Hi there, can you give some more details regarding your system?

If you run "DXDIAG" and then save all information, it will save it to a text file which you could copy/paste here :)

Same here, just as the OP described it. Running game on an SSD with Intel QX9650 and 8800GTX Ultra.
