It seems the real question to ask would be why are the vampires entering towns and killing off thier food supply. It seems to me that they should be coming in attacking guards and enthralling npcs to become cattle. Then as the vamps bug out when the fighting gets to intense the main character could track them back to Thier lair in an attempt to save said npcs .

The dlc has alot of great stuff in it but the story fell short and thing such as these town massacres really detracts from what could have had extremely potential. Also I agree the towns people should be fleeing from vamp and dragon attacks. Just my humble two cents.... Oh and hello everybody :)

I play on Expert because I like being forced to actually think tactfully about killing a bunch of bandits, rather than storming in swords blazing, not because I like watching a whole town die.

What were the attacks like on expert level and did you ever get a chance to note what the "best" group of town invaders were? I assume on expert level you would at least get more powerful vampires but were there any more unusual varieties?

I don't know. All that I've ever seen are a couple Master Vampires, their thralls, and a bunch of Death Hounds which kill everybody practically instantly.

Thanks, I have no intentions of even trying to fight them off on a higher difficulty level, but was curious.

I'm just curious why Bethesda hasn't said anything about this at all. I know that ColonelKillaBee and a few others say that Bethesda left it in on purpose, but some kind of confirmation about whether the attacks are a feature or not could make everything a whole lot easier for everyone. I haven't bought Dawnguard yet because I'm afraid that I'll be one of the people who gets a lot of these attacks, but some solid information about whether or not the attacks were intended by Bethesda might lead me to decide if I should continue holding off until a fix comes (if it's a bug), download it now and hope I don't get too many of them, or simply not buy it at all. (It's not that I don't trust the Dawnguard beta testers- I just want to get a definite confirmation either way.)

Many people complained that cities are mundane, that nothing attacks, they wished for raids. Well instead of bandits you get vamps.

Its beneficial to train combat skills, whether magic or conventional weapons.

Try using the Stop Time shout, Fear Howl (especially fully upgraded) as a wolf, the Fear spell on either the vamps or the people, Voice of the Emperor from the Imperials, Shock enchantment/spell, lots of fire, Fire Breath Shout, Berserker from the orcs, Battle Cry from the Nords, paralyze enchantment, Calm spell, Heal Other (not sure if this works).

I am not sure using the Fire Breath shout near NPC's would be such a great idea, and there is usually not enough time to use the heal other spell.

A poor one. A lot of those would cause npcs to be hostile to you, like battle cry.

Closed for post count and from the flaming in this one, don't start another for now.

I could issue a number of warnings in here and may. Folks read the rules.
