Construction set for consoles?

Post » Thu Jul 22, 2010 12:33 am

The CS is a little to complex for the consoles, but I am all for user created content available for download on consoles. Sadly with the amount of greed and stupidity that console developers have, I don't see this happening any time soon. Even though there is money to be made in allowing mods on the consoles.

Not going to happen. Neither Microsoft or Sony would ever allow user modified content of a game to be used on their consoles.

Okay, if people dont think its to do with permissions....

The oblivion CS (Im talking about a tool made in 2004) struggles to run without crashing on 1 gb of RAM.......a CS made now would have no hope on that sort of memory. Now, how much RAM and CPU power does a common console have?

See the problem with jsut 'converting' it ot work on consoles. The CS with also a windows based program, and would require re-writing to get it to even work on a console.

SO to make it work they would need to Re-write the CS, simplify what it can do and display at a time, and get permission from console companies....all for a product that in the end makes them no real extra money.

I just dont see it happening

PS: And anyway....if they did that console people would complain about other stuff....like not having all the features etc

Sony's fine with it, see UT3. However, there is the problem of the PS3 working on a significantly different system architecture compared to the X360 and PC. That's why UT3 maps have to be baked specifically for the PS3.

As for Halo reach... Can you fundamentally alter almost any piece of the game that isn't hardcoded into the executable with it? As has been said many times before, The GECK/CS is not a novelty editor, it is the software development tool that they used to make the game.

Quite simply, Microsoft can control it. They can't control the level of modability that the CS/GECK provides.

Oh yeah, here's another modder tool outside of the CS: http://fose.silverlock.org/ http://nvse.silverlock.org/http://obse.silverlock.org/. Definitely not happening on the 'Box.

Xbox 360 has 512 Mb of DDR3 but since its hardware is all made to run together its almost like 1 Gb ( but still low )

Someone said Sony would and Microsoft wouldn't. Is there any proof of this? To my knowladge, Sony wouldn't let it happen either.

Now wouldln't this be a kick. The 360 gets the DLC (first or what ever you want to call it) and the PS3 would get the console. I think
I would have to get the PS3 version if this was the case. :hubbahubba:

Because the games are optimized to run the game efficiently. As is the console itself.

SDKs are optimized for ease of development, It is not the game engine.

I get the gist that a lot of people here don't really understand the resource-intensive nature of SDKs.

I'd take that. I honestly would. Pre-made everything. Totally limited, pre-set restricted whatever... Fine. I'll take it.
