Construction Set Load Time

Post » Fri Oct 15, 2010 10:15 am

Hello there,
I originally posted this on the construction set board, but someone suggested I move it here.
When I start up the Set it begins to load the Shivering Isles data, and loads... and loads... and loads... I've left it going overnight and after 12 hours it still hasn't. When I try and cancel then select the data (double click the oblivion file, I know that much) it begins the same (loading SI) without success...
I am using CS v1.2.404 and Oblivion v1.2.0416
If there is anything else people need to know please tell me, but I'm having little success sorting this out on my own and it is, as you can imagine, quite frustrating!
Yours,
~Karenthian~

NOt sure but could be a UAC error -- IS your game installed to the Program Files Folder?? --- might also help to delete the constructionset.ini (located in your My Games\Oblivion\ folder) and let it generate a new one with default settings.

Yup, oblivion is in the right place.
I deleted the file, and whilst the same message comes up, if I cancel it (a few times) and load the oblivion file as I should, it waits a moment and then works normally (as far as I can tell). I think it's working now, thank you :D

I've read both your posts now and kinda confused about what you're trying to say.

When I start up the Set it begins to load the Shivering Isles data, and loads... and loads...

When you start the CS it should not be loading anything, least of all Shivering Isles. It just opens a blank window filled with 3 other windows. Something else is going wrong here.

When I try and cancel then select the data (double click the oblivion file, I know that much) it begins the same (loading SI) without success...

Cancel from what? Not sure what box you are seeing as there is no box while files are loading. When the CS is open, you click on the second icon at the top, from there a box opens listing all your installed mods. Double click on Oblivion.esm and click ok. You can see loading progress in the bottom bar of the CS. But like I said above, something is going wrong here.

Yup, oblivion is in the right place.

What does this mean? That it is installed in the Program Files folder? If you're on Vista or Windows 7 then that is your number one problem right there. Even if you could get the CS up and running and you create your own mod it won't save where you think it will in the Data folder, it gets put in a virtual folder somewhere and you'll probably never find it again. Same goes for mods you want to install. Oblivion won't recognize them. This is the joy of UAC.

Do yourself a favour and uninstall Oblivion, and re-install it outside of Program Files. Create a C:\Games directory or something to install to. You will save yourself a ton of headaches, and this is probably the cause of the weirdness that your CS is experiencing.

I deleted the file, and whilst the same message comes up, if I cancel it (a few times) and load the oblivion file as I should, it waits a moment and then works normally (as far as I can tell). I think it's working now, thank you

Again, what message are you cancelling? It doesn't sound like it's working properly to me.

Right, when I double click the CS icon it opens the main window, the splash screen and a dialogue window saying "File in Use" in the title, and in the body "Data\DLCShiveringIsles.esp" then under that a timer. The timer simply counts up. On the main CS window at the bar on the bottom it says "Initialising FaceGen...". I know about the virtual store and I've moved everything out of it back into Oblivion (in program files).
If I cancel this dialogue box it pops up a few times, when it stops popping up I load the Oblivion file as normal (through file -> data), and after a moment the program works as I've been told it should. The three other boxes (render etc.) only appear AFTER the Data\DLCShiveringIsles box has been closed.
I had also kinda figured that it wasn't supposed to be doing this, but it is, hence the post here as I haven't got a damned clue why :D

Are you also using the Construction Set Extender, the enhancement plug-in for the CS? That's the only thing I can think of that can automatically load a mod on start up, if you so choose. The normal CS just does not do that.

Otherwise, you can either leave it as is if you believe it's working after all that, or delete the version you have, http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11367 and re-install. Could be a buggy version you have.

It's also your choice to leave your install in the program files folder. Good luck. :)

Nope, I am using it now (figured what harm could it do?) but no change... it does seem a bit odd that it's doing things without reason but I'm happy to leave it be for now... it seems to have no trouble working after this stupidity and I don't want to aggravate it any further ;)
Thanks for your help!
