Regaez, it's been a month since our last posts here, perhaps do you have some fresh news about Yesterbreeze? :)

Sorry about the absence. RL has been hectic and chaotically busy, so progress has slowed somewhat. I'm still working on developing the Tyrthol Coast region (as it is a rather large part of YB). However, I have a handful of assorted screens for everyone today. :D

Yagghhh! I hope those objects placed partially on the rugs are properly rotated to rest on both the floor and the rug! I've had too many experiences of people not realizing that rugs are not flat planes and MW doesn't come with Havok.

The project looks like it's coming along superbly, however... keep it up :)

If it were me I'd most likely just put that odd part of the furniture straight through the rug like it wasn't there.

Now that's how I'd always envisioned Cohis Reg. Awesome remake. :goodjob:

Great trailer video - I could feel my hands cramping with carpal tunnel just thinking about all those rock and tree placements - you must of put 1000's of hours into this project

Heh, I don't know how many hours Reg puts in. But there's no doubt its a lot. Heck...my word doc with all the misc. quests I've written so far is 65 pages long. And I don't even have all of the misc. quests I've written saved on it! :nuke:

Only 22 out of 100 left to write though. :foodndrink:

Thanks for the compliments and support everyone. It's very much appreciated.

I'm not sure about the objects on the rugs, and whether they touch the ground or not. However, I will mention it to Cullanna if he hasn't read your post already, and I'll have the interiors checked, as well. Thanks for pointing that out - I hadn't thought of that.

Personally, I love the trailer too. I often use it to re-inspire and motivate me after I've had a break from modding for a while.

To be honest, I don't keep a tally of how many hours I put into modding YB, but it is certainly a hell of a lot when I think about it. For example, it took me just under an hour to make http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd41/Regaez/CoY_WolfHill.jpg, from nothing to fully detailed and finished. I know because I actually took a Fraps video of the development of the whole hill. It may not seem like much work, but I spend quite a lot of time looking at the terrain and surrounding area and thinking of what I can create that will make that specific part of the landscape interesting, different, and worthwhile exploring. Looking back at the video, it's funny because you can tell when I'm thinking, as there will be parts when nothing happens for a while or I'll just pan around the hill for a few minutes, simply looking at what I've done so far. It may not be very good work efficiency, but I put a lot of time, thought, and effort into making this mod the best I can.

Oh, and Syrcanus, my Quest Library document (which contains 78 Misc. Quests) is 101 pages long, and about 37,000 words! Granted, the formatting is all mixed up with 1.5 line spacing, indents and line breaks (which makes it more pages than it should be) but 37,000 words is a lot. And most of those words... they're yours, Syrcanus. :goodjob:

EDIT: Syrcanus, I've now gone through the entire Quest Library and formatted it uniformly - 12pt Goudy Old Style font, single line spacing, default margin setting etc. and it is now 73 pages long.

If you uh... happen to post this on YouTube, or um... upload it to RapidShare... there could be a lifetime supply of milk and cookies showing up at your door in the near future. And a G.I. Regaez action figure if you pay for the shipping. But you didn't hear that from me.

Seriously, I would love to see the video; I really really enjoy seeing other people working, catching a glimpse of how they do what we all love so much. Plus it's a good way to glean interesting methods of doing things (aka tips and tricks) you wouldn't have thought of by yourself.

Holy crap...37, 000 words.

That's quite an impressive hill also. I could believe that took around an hour judging from the scope of the detail put into it. If I had a fraps video of me making this arctic island I'm working on it would funny. I mess around too much when I have lots of space to toy with, although its harder then you'd think trying to create a semi-realistic arctic island that's mostly made out of plains, mountains, and a bunch of glaciers. Everything has to be so huge that all the spinning I end up doing in the CS makes me dizzy. :ahhh:

Well, I'll certainly consider it. I'll have to cut out a lot of footage as there's 50 mins of video, and I don't think you'd really want to watch it for that long. But I should be able to condense it down to a reasonable length and still get the progress of development, and show my style of modding. It won't be for a while though, until I have some time to actually edit it together. If I get right onto it, maybe a week or two...

I'll say now, I am a very object-oriented modder. I use a lot of objects when modding (there's one rock I especially like, as is shown by the video :D), and I probably don't utilise the landscape as well as I could - but I just like the way the rock objects add so much more to the scene, even if it is harder on the computer.

Oh, I know what you mean. Sometimes I mod for a few hours straight, managing to focus on one particular aspect of the mod, and other times I have to do it in bursts, having breaks every 15-20mins or so. And then sometimes I flit between several different parts of the mod during one session (which can range from 15mins to several hours). For example, start doing Tyrthol Coast, then suddenly be inspired to mod the Great Northern forest, and then completely reverse mood and feel like redesigning/adding to Cohis. As a result, if you were to walk around YB at the moment, you would see about a dozen half-finished areas due to this. I think Mystery05 would agree with me here. :D

Hey, I hear ya! :hehe: I saw you were from NZ too, and wondered whereabouts - now I know. If you're ever up in Hamilton... ;)

 Ermm i think that ive done what Syrcanus said, and put it through the rug, but if i rotated them wouldnt it look like the table was on a lean for example?

You can't even tell if the objects go through the rug because its to far away to see so it just looks like thats where the leg ends, however a table on a lean would be quite noticable, so im thinking ill just leave it....

As long as nothings floating I don't think it matters. Because as you said your going to be looking at it from far enough away that it won't really make a difference otherwise.

Lifetime supply of milk and cookies be mine! :liplick:

As per request, I've edited down the 50mins of video, added a speed up effect (shorten length and help prevent boredom) and uploaded the result, which is a two-part development video of Wolfhill in Tyrthol Coast (about 17 mins in total), to YouTube. I hope it's not too boring...

Continent Of Yesterbreeze: Tyrthol Coast Development Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrGQchkOP1U focuses more on the general development of the hill; shaping terrain, placing rocks, layout etc.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPd9YRFurMA is more to do with the detailing; placement of trees, grass, fallen branches, tree stumps etc.

Hopefully you might learn a few things about how I mod, and you'll get to see my style first-hand. Also, if you thoroughly liked watching this video, then thank Haplobartow whose request brought it all about.

Enjoy! :D

Awesome :-) I love watching others work in the CS.

I noticed a wooded plateau at 1:09 into the first movie with BM trees on what looked like either all 100% flat terrain, or (what I think) the trees were all scaled at 1.00. Will they remain so or will you vary the sizes of the trees in question?

Pretty good work there Regaez, I kind miss working with the Cs now.. I spend more of my time modeling and texturing than I do anything else in modding nowdays.

Well, it's not that hard to remember the stuff:
S for scale
Ctrl + D for Duplicate
Right Click for rotate objects
Click drag for moving objects
Z/X for Z and X axis movement and rotation
Space for camera panning
Middle mouse button/Shift for camera rotation
Scrolling/Shift + clickdrag for zoom

And that's all from the top of my head.

Haha. Well... yes. I'd say I know nearly every shortcut for the CS (although I'm sure there's bound to be some I don't know). And it was not so much memorising, but more repeatedly using them until I now do it without having to think. I have been doing exteriors for 2 years now, and you pick a lot of things up over that amount of time.

Awesome :-) I love watching others work in the CS.

I'm glad you like it.

Yes, it is a plateau, and the ground is pretty much flat. There is some variation to the land height (and there's a big lake in the middle), but the trees will be varied in scale also. So not to worry. I like to think that I take great care in detailing my landscapes, and I would not be skipping over something like that.

Wow, these videos are great, your landscaping skills are just amazing :goodjob:. I wish I could work like that with the CS. Can?t wait to wander through these mountains.

Thanks. I just hope that when you do walk through those mountains it is just as amazing.

Yes, as you see how much time I spent on one hill, you start to understand just how large this mod really is. And my goal is to make the whole of Yesterbreeze detailed and created with as much care and devotion as that hill. It will take a long time, but I am really hoping that this will turn out to be something great.

Hey, who says you can't work with the CS? My view is to mod what you feel like modding, for that will usually produce the best results. At least, that's what I've found...

I can, and it's very fun, it's just that whenever I do I find myself wanting new resources and stuff. So I just keep making things and making things, then when I finally have enough stuff to make what I want in the CS, I will. :P

..pretty crazy huh?
