It could have been possible, lore-wise, to continue your character from MW to OB, because one side effect of the Corprus disease was immortality. From OB to TES V (Skyrim?) though, an elven character might still be around (noticably older) after 200 years, but any non-mer would be long dead and gone without some impressive spells or enchantments to keep them alive despite their debilitating age and decrepitude.

The problem with using a previous character is that you'd either have to reset all of their skills and attributes back to where they started (and come up with some funky excuse for that), or else there'd be no point in playing the new game, because you'd already be "maxed out". You certainly wouldn't want to make the next game for high-level characters only, which would rule out any sales from potential customers who didn't already own OB, and it would be absurd to have a region where all of the inhabitants are high-level "demi-gods" at the very least, unless you're making a game specifically about the "afterlife".

The fun (in my and many other players' opinions) is in building your character in new and interesting ways, not being invincible and running around killing everything that moves (which can be fun for a VERY short time, but is generally sufficient reason to delete the character and start a new one).

As for the "decendant" point, I actually tried making an OB character as a grandkid of my one MW character, but the "mainstreamed" and gutted character generation system in OB made a mockery of the attempt, and I quickly gave up on that idea. I pity the diehard DF fans who had to settle for what MW did to all of their favorite quirks and other character choices, only to see it taken an even larger step backwards in OB.

No. I originally voted yes because my main char. is a Dunmer, but now I think about it, since Rythe Arano is the Champion of Cyrodiil, Grand Champion of the Arena and soon-to-be Mages guild Archmage (two years in-game time and I'm only a conjurer :P ), it would make sense that he would of retired, found himself a nice lady, and settled down on some lakeside resort by then.

Hells no! ES games are at their best when you're new and terrified of everything. Once you're super powerful and (because of Oblivion's leveling system) so is everyone else there's no point. Running around the game as a master everything with +100K gold fighting bandits wearing daedric/glass armour - what's the point. Give me a rusty iron sword and some fur armour, desperately searching for a mortar and pestle so I can heal myself - that's the game!

I think it might be a bit weird playing with same character and not starting incarcerated without knowing why, like Morrowind and Oblivion

I just thought of a good idea. What if in the next game, if you have a save from oblivion in which you beat the shivering isles main quest, then your character makes a cameo as sheogorath for when you do his quest? If you're new to the series and you dont have a save, then haskill tells you the masters bidding.(daggerfall and morrowind both had daedric quests so it makes sense TES:V would too)

I voted it doesn't fit with the lore because there really was no "No, that idea is awful" choice. The actual no choice implies you only wouldn't carry over because he'd be too old, not because the idea is bad.

My Oblivion character was created as the sire of my Morrowind character and his shield maiden. With the character generator, it was nice to make his visage a mix of the two characters. Since the talk on the streets in the game is that the Nerevarine went to Akavir, having his sire in Oblivion made perfect sense to me. I could do that with any game that is created after. Also, like what was mentioned above, if your PC is an Elf, you can concievably have them around for all of them.

Different strokes really.

Water under the bridge
Besides my chars normally only last 2 months max. Rather start something new from scratch.

as cool as it would be no it dont think it work out well not only would your character be way outside of time it would also be too powerful theres no easy way to make it less powerful without either making the game uber difficult or making your character such a wimp you might as well have started from scratch anyway by the way i dont like to use punctuation it makes it way to easy for people to read and im too lazy to use it anyway i cant wait to see tesv

I had about 10 characters in Oblivion, probably 2 or 3 50's... Yeah, it kind of consumed my life, not going to lie...

With that said, starting from scratch seems to be the Elder Scrolls way.

would like to hear some of your thought on this I'm sorry in advance if this has already been posted

If you were to carry your wealth, skills, and inventory into a new game it would create all sorts of problems. That said you could actually 'do' that in RPGs like Wizardry so there is precedent.

They need to keep the tradition of one character one game. The citizens were talking in oblivion about how the Nerevarine went on an expedition to Akavir, meaning that your character is the the character you had in Morrowind.

Lately we’ve been more lenient about TES V topics here but they have unfortunately begun to overrun this forum so we will be cracking down on them again.

  • If you want to discuss features that you would like to see in an upcoming Elder Scrolls game, or expect to see, please use the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1147719-tes-v-ideas-and-suggestions-188/

  • Speculation on when or if such a game will be announced belongs in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1147858-official-tes-v-speculation-thread-89/.

  • Finally any discussion of future Elder Scrolls games that involve multiplayer of any sort belongs in the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1119156-official-tes-multiplayer-thread/.
