I've had the same character since I bought Morrowind like 6 years ago or something, and she's come with me to Oblivion and will definitely also be visiting TES:V (she's an elf, so no worries about being too old to adventure!), but I don't want to carry over items or anything. I want to experience the game just the way it is and start completely anew.

Just no. The fun is in the journey, not in already being there.

Nah I want a new character being my character from Oblivion would be boring. The Champion Of Cyrodill's story will end hopefully he doesn't go to Akavir but to the Shivering Isles.

I voted "no". Mostly because my character from Oblivion went insane and actually believes himself to be Sheogorath. I don't think that a crazy person would function well as the hero of the next installment.

I'm not really sure it'd be a good idea - besides, you can basically create the character anew each time.

Not to forget that they tweak the characters, classes and skills each time, so it wouldn't really be feasible.

However, Diablo 2 really interested me - the big bad is the PC from Diablo 1.

I voted "Yes" since I would LOVE the idea to be have my Oblivion character as an ancestor to my Tes V character.

It could work like this.
When you create a new game in Tes V it looks for an Oblivion save on your xbox and then you can choose the character you want to pick. Once you have made your choice you Must create a new character with the same race, a Breton character from Oblivion would force you to be a Breton in Tes V aswell for example. Now this could work since some people (I know I do) want to play with a similar character as we did back in Oblivion, and I know staying alive for 200 years can be tricky, but if the character in Tes V were to be a blood relative in the direct line of descent from the mighty hero/heroine of Cyrodiil then lore wise it could work out.
Now transfering epic items from one game to another would just be weird. Maybe not lorewise (since one could inherit the artifact in question) but more gameplay wise. Instead, the new character could get a perk or a title of some sort showing the young newblood's old ancestor's legendary status. Or maybe an item of choice could be transferred over but without it's stats?

I know I will create a darkelf as I did in Oblivion, and I would not mind if it turns out the two games won't have any kind of relations between each other.
But it would be cool to get something for all the 100+ hours one put into Oblivion, I do not ask for much but at least give us something :)

Any ideas/suggestions?

Todd Howard said that each new Elder Scrolls game does not, will not and should not be necessary to play the last game to understand the new one. A story-based RPG game are the only ones that this sort of mechanic can really work. The Elder Scrolls is about exploring a whole new thing with each game. If you connect your old character with the new game it wouldn't fit the way things are done in TES.
Plus all the work to make choices and consequences from Oblivion impact on TESV would be a waste. I love how each new Elder Scrolls throws you in the body of an anonymous person with no background who eventually shapes his history and fate.

Ah that is an intresting thought, and certainly an intresting concept! And I agree that one should not have to play the game before in order to enjoy the current game. Because that would split the fan base into two camps, which is not neccesary.
But how about having the option to include a blood line heritage from Oblivion? Of course it would not be mandatory nor give any ingame benefits. Just a nice touch and a tribute to the dedicated players. Nothing fancy pancy, just something to connect the two games.
That would, at least for me, improve my gaming experience with an open world RPG like Tes.

a family decendant? bloodline!!! I'm still unsure  it was just a thought to see what everyone mentions, indeed bloodline sounds good tho, if it were included with the option it would be cool.

It's a role play story, so it very well could fit with the lore. There are ways to prolong ones life a few centuries. My character lives for thousands of years, for example.

Since I don't see such an option, I'll answer here.

Plain, simple "No."

Same of how I feel. I don't want something akin to ME2 for importing characters. However, it is not out of someone's imagination to continue their Arena character from Arena to TES:V by making a character that looks and behaves the same way as all the other games. That's their choice, and I'm not one to say "you can't do that!"

However, Diablo 2 really interested me - the big bad is the PC from Diablo 1.

Well, the time span between the end of D1 and the beginning of D2 was a few years at most, and your character in D1 is not the one in D2.

No, if I wanted my Oblivion character I would make him with cheats. I mean, new province, new time, new events, new armor and weapons, and hopefully a new level scaling system and weapon system, so why old character with improper equipment? Plus how would you transfer your Daedric quest items? I mean the only way to do it is have all new items and keep your appearance and level, so why bother? Plus your character is in a save file not a special character folder, so transferring him/her over would mean digging him/her out of a ton of source codes and altering them to the updated engine. Plus when Oblivion was released Bethesda said all Elder Scrolls games are stand alone and only take place in the same world and not share characters (PC not NPCs are sometimes implemented as easter eggs).

i actually lol'd that's the sanest answer but that brings up a funny question; how are they going to depict sheogorath in TES:V? Will another dragonbreak explain it?

I completed Oblivion entirely, all DLC included, three separate times, using three highly unique characters, with at least 150 hours dedicated to each. I must have had at least two or three secondary characters that contributed another 100-150 hours to the total play time. Altogether, I probably spent almost 600 hours in Oblivion's world, an amount of play time I never even managed to approach in any game I've played, before or since.

What I'm trying to say is, I never formed any real attachment to any of the characters I used. I always saw the characters as vehicles, and the world as a beautiful scenic route. I'm not really here to admire the car, I'm here to enjoy the view. The car is just a tool - a tool I can improve and upgrade, but a tool nonetheless. The world itself managed to be a much better overall character than the actual protagonist ever was.

I couldn't force myself to finish Oblivion so I do not think I would want to continue my characters in the next one, if I choose to buy it.

It definitely would be a good choice to start with your old character from Oblivion.
