Continued Lag Issues AFTER Update

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:01 am

the newest update does not do anything to affect the lag. all it does is make games have less humans by default because the fewer humans, the less lag usually. they are still working on a actual downloadable patch to fix the problem causing the lag. if you are having lag problems, dont try big team because that is for people without lag problems.

“Production wrapped on Brink earlier than we planned and we didn’t see any reason to keep gamers from getting their hands on this highly anticipated game as soon as it was ready,” said Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks. “It’s apparent from the tremendous reaction so far that people are eager to jump online and play, and if we can make that happen earlier – we’re going to.”

I still cant believe, they thought this game was ready to be released. I've been eager to "jump online and play" since the game has been released and I rushed down to pick it up at 10 in the morning.
I am so frustrated with the lag. :sadvaultboy:

This game WOULD have been great on the 360, but i think it is decidedly clear that this was just a port to the xbox 360. I WOULD have been a huge fan of the game but the mere fact that its broken when it comes to online play is in a word.. unacceptable. The people who made this game should not have released it on other platforms and while the pc version may be having little issues, this game was decidedly made for the PC.

My frustration is compounded by the fact that the developers said that they would be trying to fix it, yet nothing has changed. Its very disappointing, and I am not one to come on the forums and complain, but this clearly a very unpolished and unprofessional product that should never have been released. The concept behind the game is absolutely great, but the short sidedness of the developers have forever changed my opinion of buying splash damage and beth. games.

While this is a bit of a rant, this is the sentiment of not just mine, but those of my peers and those whom I talk to. You "Screwed the pooch" on this one.

Really netcode? You couldn't foresee this issue ahead of time? I know very little about the development processes, but I am pretty confident that I could have done a better job with this, given the resources that splash damage had. This game not only damages future games in the team based genre, but especially for those wanting to do it for the xbox. I have a PC that could run this game with ease, but enjoy playing on the xbox, so this is not a forced to choose but rather a preference.

In short you should be ashamed of yourselves.

The patch apparently changed little to nothing...Brink still remains unplayable in freeplay games for me.

I love Brink (when it works) and have been stalking it for over 2 years but seriously I have to say I feel a little sick in my stomach. Its sad that a company of any product can fail to deliver as poorly as this; that we as consumers, who gave you our money, are just supposed to take the hit and wait for you to deliver on something you said was finished. Guess what... its far from done and the people who have been waiting on this game to release are still waiting to be able to enjoy it. I have been basically advertising Brink for a year. I have made my friends almost as excited for its release as I was and have been defending it but I cant do it anymore while still taking myself seriously. Friends of mine are feeling cheated and I feel partially responsible for suggesting it. I know games are getting harder to develop and there is a lot going on during the development process but this is not acceptable, get your stuff together. PLEASE learn from this, deliver the enjoyable experience you owe us.

Fix the lag with out cutting down on the player cap (dedicated servers maybe? I know its expensive but check your bank account there should be some money from people like me).

Fix the AI (and please stop saying nothings wrong with it and it just gets harder as the match progresses, its broken...especially the part that is supposed to be helping you).

Improve texture load times (I haven't seen LOD popping this bad since Halo 2).

Also a lobby interface would be nice.

CONSTANT!, and fix the graphics pls 'great game but its giving me a migraine.

I think I experienced the Bucha effect/ Flicker vertigo the other day. No Joke, I felt really strange like the room was tilting sideways & couldn't focus on the screen, I looked away from the game and looked back at it
and realized that I needed to stop ASAP. As soon as I got up and left the room I immediately felt normal.

I don't think it can be fixed. They have released two patches with no results. In fact, tonight was the worst lag I have experienced since release (Old Skool, regular, etc). This game goes back to the shop. Maybe Brink 2 will work, this game is weak and I don't see a way forward. Nothing has helped (of course I didn't play anything before the patches - maybe it is improved)?

Still experiencing tons of lag in competitive vs modes. Be it campaign or freeplay, I just can't play against other players.
I do complain about the team AI but that's irrelevant in this thread.
My question is what on earth was the Brink team thinking releasing this game as is? So many low reviews... such a horrible rep already assigned to this game by a tidal wave of disgruntled players. I'm trying to remain optimistic for this game, but it's hard to think that in a few months anyone will be playing this game anymore. Launch is a big thing for console games. If the system is faulty early on people won't stick around for the updates and DLC. I love the concept of this game. I love that it rewards team play so expertly. I love how lone-wolfing will only bring you failure and despair. But these lag issues should have been tested before it was shipped for sale!

I want to see Brink shine. I want to see games full of people enjoying the awesome team play this game has the potential to offer. I want to see tons of DLC content in the future exploiting all the amazing opportunities for expansion this game has. But at this rate I'll be surprised if any of it will be worth it by the time the patch comes by. Things look very grim, Splash Damage.

How do they continue to do nothing?
The number of people experiencing the same problem shows that nothing has been done. Everyone experiencing the same problem.
I too agree the game was a great concept, but the development is very very poor. The fact that the developers specifically came out and said this game was ready to go, so why not release it early?
It was never ready to be released, and they knew this how do you develop a game like this and not know. I can see minor issues that get overlooked or not found by QA, but something on this level
of error is nothing but obvious.

Bethesda, as publishers of this game, you should pay very close attention to the complaints. You have one of the biggest titles being released this year, Skyrim. Many of us belong to many different gaming communities websites as members, as well as owners. Word of mouth in the gaming industry has huge effects on sales. Dont brush aside these complaints, these are the same consumers who will decide whether or not to purchase any future games by both the publisher and developers of Brink. With todays economy, gaming consumers find themselves limited only able to choose certain titles over others being released around the same time period. We also remember the bad experiences from previous games purchased from a publisher/developer. This experience by a consumer will very much effect decisions in purchasing future titles, as well as recommending to other gaming friends.

I have posted my game once before on ebay, but deleted the listing, because I wanted to believe the game would be fixed, and yet there is no word as to a fix.
So again tonight playing with friends, all 4 of us experiencing game ruining lag issues. After the game ended, we have concluded by deciding to trade this game in.
It is best that we loose the minimal amount and get a decent trade in value as the time allow before it decreases in trade in value.

I admire the concept of the game, what should have been a great game, as talked about in many of the Dev Diary Vids. But what was sold was a game nowhere near being finished or completed.

I, and I'm sure as many others who have posted, will be very hesitant when purchasing future products of both Bethesda and Splash Damage.

Got the game today from GameFly. My first co-op campaign match was unplayable, but I guess the lag has gotten better. I think that was the result of being dropping out of so many laggy matches, I finally lucked out and got connected to people with decent connections. There needs to be a way to have some search parameters (i.e. region); though I doubt Splash Damage would be able to implement it.

I hosted a community night the other night. I have a solid 50mb connection and very low ping and noise.

For me, no lag, for most of the other 8 players it was unplayable. Of about 15 members of my community that have bought brink, over 10 of them now are trading the game in for LA Noire come the European release. They are struggling to find lag free games and are rightfully peeved off at their purchase.

I myself am toying with trading in now, I wont have anyone to play with from my community, plus I'm having a lot of issues.

You haven't said anything more since the interim short term 'fix'. Come on guys, when are we getting a patch?

My issue now is the rooms NEVER fill , i play old school and competative and every old school game hits 4v4 and noone else joins but if one person drops it always goes back up to 4v4 :sadvaultboy:

I play in old school because its the only mode i can play in without unplayable lag. The thing with old school is that it is 4v4 max (which is probably why the lag is so much less).
Competitive is 5v5 max and it still lags.
Another problem i find when playing old school or any mode for that matter is that when players drop out the games can become 4v1 for the entire 20 minutes or whatevers left of the game.... is there that few people still playing this game that it cant find any other players, or the matchmaking in this thing just that bad?..

Best of luck to the rest of the gamers here, sold my copy today on ebay, grabbed me $35 for it.
I just feel kinda bad for the person who bought it.
See thats odd, I feel bad cause I sold a broken game to someone who is looking forward to playing Brink
How do the developers live with themselves after selling thousands of copies to people knowing it's broke??
I'm having problems feeling bad with selling only 1 copy.

Please remember that the changes were not a patch but rather an attempt to improve play while the patch is worked on and the approval process (long approval process for microsoft alone) is complete. At that time a full patch will be applied. PC has already received the second patch which has addressed the lag.

This temporary fix has helped but it's far from being a patch. Nothing to do but await the patch. :(

Played from 10:30 PM till 7 AM and I did not run into any lag at all. Every game was full! I love this game. Some of you are a little too impatient, IMO.

I can understand you thinking that perhaps some of us are a lil impatient.....IF it were some of us.
But go to the Brink Hardware and Software Issues Subforums > Xbox 360 Forums, and scroll through and you will see so many people with lag issues, texture issues, freezing issues, just to name a few.

I can see if it were just a small fraction of people experiencing the problem, but a large majority out numbering the very few experiencing no lag is a big problem.

I do hope they get this fixed and everyone gets to enjoy a great game, but for now, you cant help but feel disappointment in both the Developers and Publishers of this title.

As stated in the first post, I also encounter lag.

The Competitive mode is the least laggy, probably because of the smaller teams. Some players seem to create lag, maybe because the distance between my location and the location from where those players are playing is too big, f.i. America or Asia(don't know if the match making goes intercontinental).
Anyway, when I play a standard match I have a lot of lag, but also seem to come over 'lagless' games, as if it is caused by random persons or the particular host.

I hope you can fix this problem with a greater update sooner or later. If you need more info please let me know.

The long approval process of microsoft is not an excuse and should not be used as a scapegoat. The game should not have been released in its current state, period.
I should not have to wait for a patch to play a game that i paid $70 for, any argument to the contrary is just ridiculous.

See my opinion is that is not our connection. Why don't we lag on other games. I host games on Crysis 2 on a regular basis and nobody complains. I have a 20mg connection with a good ping. It should be something on the coding of the game. Maybe the communication between the selected host and the game servers I don't know. I put the game away and got me Mortal Kombat, I haven't get rid of it but I'm inclined to. LIke I stated before on another thread, this kind of problems are the norm on new games, we demand a better product. leaking Mk out my last 3 game purchases, Crysis 2, Homefront and Brink. All of them had a ton of problems. I got rod of Homefront the graphics advertised for X360 were PC shots. Crysis has a terrific campaing and great graphics so I kept it and it way much better. Brink, well it is the worst of the 3.

The game was ready to be released, yeahh they meant that the units were properly wrapped and put into shipping boxes to be distributed. He never mentionted that he was referring tp the online play. I swear to God they knew about this problems and they rush the product to create a false sense of trust. SD we demand better products.. I was one oof those who follow ed this game for 2 years, NO more fan boy..

I find it interesting that Microsoft have a long validation process on game updates (also a reasonably large financial cost I believe), but appear to have no real validation of core functionality for XBox Live capable games? Otherwise how would Brink MP have passed any kind of certification? Do they simply trust the publisher?

I sincerely hope the patch, once it's actually certified and released to us is going to remove the lag, because like others the future hope of this patch is all that's stopping me from trading Brink in.
