Continuous Menu Loop

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 11:31 pm

Hi there. I'm sure this is the result of me installing something in the wrong order but as I don't know which program is causing it, I'm finding it hard to troubleshoot. Though I have searched.

If I launch oblivion via the obse_loader in my oblivion directory, or via the OBSE launcher (using the 'with obse' option), my game never loads the main menu, continuing to loop on the cyrodiil map. This doesn't happen if I have obse installed alone.

The only things that I do currently have installed are boss, obmm, obse, obge, standalone bash, the obse universal silent voice as well as all of the official content and the unofficial patch and mod patch. I'm running GOTY edition.

Any help would be appreciated.

Make a copy of the Wrye Bash Launcher in Oblivion\Mopy and place it on your desktop, This will allow you to bring up Wrye Bash. OBSE is enabled by placing a check in the green box in the lower left corner of the Wrye Bash screen.
I am assuming standalone Bash means you have not built a Bashed Patch yet, but You have installed the current Wyre Python 3a and Wrye Bash version 291?
EDIT I only use Wrye Bash to launch my game, I can access OBMM/BOSS, the CS from one screen.

Thank you for the reply.

Launching Oblivion from Bash has the same result. The only way that I can avoid this issue is by launching oblivion without obse which I don't really want to settle for.

By standalone bash, I mean the version that doesn't require python and no I haven't made a bashed patch yet.

I should perhaps also mention that during this menu cycle loop there is no response from my mouse or keyboard although I can escape past the the bethesda logos just fine. I have to use task manager to quit oblivion.

I would not use any standalone version of Wrye Bash, but I was unaware it does exist.
I am recommending using the most current and stable of OBSE 19 along with a cleaning of your Oblivion folder to remove the extra things you might have accidentally installed. How did you install USV, did you make a folder named OBSE\plugins inside your Oblivion\Data or install the .dll files into Oblivion?
EDIT I am thanking you for informing me about the existence of the stand alone version of Wrye Bash!

I did this:
make a folder named OBSE\plugins inside your Oblivion\Data

Standalone bash is cool ;) Not had any issues with it or with the Morrowind version ;)

Edit: I have tested with both the latest stable version of obse and the beta. Neither make a difference.

If I have obse installed alone, this doesn't happen. Only after I added some of the other utilities that I mentioned did it prevent me from loading the game.

Sorry for the double post but I think you are on to something with that obse/plugins installation thing. If I remove that folder, everything works fine.

I have just been dropping the dll into the obse/plugins folder. Is there a more proper way of installing them?

Edit: OK, I've narrowed it down to the OBGEv2.dll

Having this in my OBSE/plugins directory is the only thing preventing Oblivion from loading. If I remove it alone, Oblivion runs fine. I installed OBGE manually. Is there something that I am missing?

Edit2: Here is the content of the OBGEv2 output text file from my Oblivion directory in case it helps:

Ingnoring message.Pre HookRESZ not supported.Depth buffer texture (INTZ) (1920,1080) created OK.Depth buffer attached OK. 0Depth buffer : Lost device callback.Releasing the depth buffer surface.Releasing the depth buffer texture.Re-attaching depth buffer texture.RESZ not supported.Depth buffer texture (INTZ) (1920,1080) created OK.Depth buffer attached OK. 0Depth buffer : Lost device callback.

I try to keep the OBSE plugins that I know I need. I don't have any mods that do require OBGE to work. I have always kept the USV plugins, pluggy, and FastExit 2.
EDIT The release thread for Oblivion Graphics Extender is where to look for information on using OBGE.It is right below this topic as I type.
