Control inversion

So, I just got NV today for my birthday, and I was all excited as I put it into my 360. I'm a massive fan of Bethesda's work, and have enjoyed their games since 2004. I knew NV was going to be good. I get a prompt to download an update, and do so, watch the games opening cinematics, then begin the process of creating my character. Now imagine my face when I go to stand up, only to find that the controller scheme has been reversed. Instead of being able to move with the left stick and look with the right, it's the opposite. I brushed this off to being a part of the game intro, and continued with my character creation. Imagine my surprise when I finish up all parts of creation, without a controller scheme prompt. Imagine still my face when I go into Settings-Controls, only to find that there is no options to change stick movement. Imagine my face when I realize this is one of the first games that doesn't allow such customization. Now, I've tried multiple solutions, such as deleting saves, clearing cache, playing offline, not redownloading the update, searching for similar problems experienced by other players on other forums, even switching controllers- all to no avail. It would seem that my issue isn't something experienced by others, and now I'm worried that this is something unfixable. Has anyone else here experienced such issues? I really hope that there is a solution on the way, if not already in existence. Please, someone offer me some advice.
