Controller for PC Version

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 5:07 pm

Hi Everyone!
So I just built a gaming PC and am looking forward to playing some max settings Fallout 4. However, I'm originally a console gamer, and while I can see the advantage of a mouse+keyboard in competitive games, I like controllers for single player stuff like fallout, especially for haptic feedback and the ability to vary my move speed (nothing like watching your character epically walk into the sunset). I haven't found any hard answers online, so hopefully someone here can help me; what controllers will steam support for Fallout 4, and will they have haptic feedback?

Last game that did not have full controller support was Oblivion. I doubt Bethesda won't have full support for Fallout 4.

Microsoft actually just launched the wireless dongle for Xbox One controllers on Windows as well. Meaning you no longer have to use a wired X1 controller.

If you go wireless i'd also recommend you pick up rechargable batteries + charger if you don't have one already

Xbox one controller works just fine with a cable. If you don't have win10 just google the drivers and download them. Nothing crazy.

I prefer a controller as well (couch PC).

Mind telling me what your rig is? I'm researching getting a PC, but I'm trying to navigate specs and budget and the like.

Both. A lot of the modern pc games use controller support.

Yeah if you have a wireless controller a micro usb cable works fine as well on any Windows 7 or newer OS. You basically make it a wire controller (which is what i do when i run out of battery)

I just prefer wireless controllers when sitting on my couch, my missus don't like cables spanning from my PC to the TV

I like to connect my PS4 controller to my computer with a micro usb cord, and then emulate an xbox controller with help from Xpadder.

Take notes, kids. ;)

I just hope they've altered the engine enough to where you can pick up and play with one, or just play with a KB+M without having to turn the controller off in the options. Not a huge deal but it always annoyed me since I leave my 360 controller plugged into my PC.

No problem friend! That's what I stumbled upon one night while I was surfing the website.

It will support it, but you will most likely need a Xbox Controller if you don't want to use a 3rd-Party Program to use it. (Like MotionJoy for example)

Bethesda and Microsoft kinda have a thing.

If you have a PS4 controller, or some other type of controller you will need to utilize a 3rd-party program.

I use a third party program for my DS4 and it works like a charm. Only annoyance for me is that xbox button configurations are still shown in game, so it can take a bit of getting used to if youy arent familiar with an xbox layout like i was.

Windows 10 has the driver built-in. I have seen nothing to indicate drivers can not be downloaded for Windows 7 and 8.

Worth checking - the adapter and controller are great. Been training myself with a new run of Fallout NV.

AFAIK the wireless dongle is indeed win10 only.. Wired is 7 and newer with downkoadable drivers (x1 controller)

Win 10 is free and alott better than 8 in my opinion, so people with legit installations should upgrade if you ask me

I'd recommend getting one of these instead: http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Charge-Base-Xbox-One/dp/B00FLLFJE0

I bought one for my 360 controller, and it was the best gaming investment I ever made. [censored] messing around with AAs and AA Chargers.

I love using my wired 360 controller on my Windows 8.1 PC. Just plug it in a USB port and it is auto-detected and set-up for me. Lots of games automatically detect it and change the layout to match the Xbox controller. Skyrim works fine with it.

Some games like platformers, 3rd person action titles, etc. I prefer to play with the controller - GTA 5 and the Assassin's Creed games for example. For 1st person games like Fallout and Skyrim, I prefer the mouse and keyboard.

I recently purchased a new Xbox One controller the new model with a mini phone jack on it. My Win 7 OS did not reconize this new model and none of the drivers I could find on the web would work.

I ran down to my local GameStop and bought a used refurb Xbox One (old model) and when I connected the USB WIn 7 auto downloaded the correct driver and it was truely plug and play.

So if you buy an new controller and it doesn't work right out of the box you will have to buy an older model until MS catches up with new drivers.

HTH
