Is it convenient to disable DEP for Oblivion?

Post » Mon Jan 17, 2011 10:52 pm

I grew sick that every time I close Oblivion (+OBSE) it appears the stupid message "Oblivion stopped working"....even worse, it appears and I can't close it without opening some other window before, as the mouse cursor is disabled when it appears. So I looked in Google and found that by including the Oblivion.exe in DEP exception list, that messagebox stops appearing. I did it, and it works. Is it convenient to do so? Thx in advance.

P.D: Yes, I also use Fastexit2, and no, it doesn't prevents those messageboxes from appearing.

]Hi, I have this same problem[, in fact I was just looking around on this forum to find any answers when I saw your post. I have to right click taskbar, then I'm able to use mouse to click off the 'cant close' message. What is really irritating me is that win 7 keeps wanting to chase up 'the problem' when it sounds like win7 is causing it.
I'll be watching your post in the hope that some answers come up.

If you can turn if off for oblivion, or, the oblivion folder entirely, that wouldn't be a bad plan. Save yourself a lot of headaches......

Better option is just to install someplace outside of the program files folder.

This is a normal situation for anything that uses an interpretive scripting language. Oblivion Scripts will always trigger something like this, so put it on the exception list and stop worrying. The CS will be the same, I'd imagine.

Hmm... I was going to exempt Oblivion.exe but when I went the DEP control window found that it is set to work with "essential Windows programs and services only". Unless I hear otherwise I'll assume that Microsoft doesn't consider Oblivion essential?
