[ IDEA ] A conversation with House Dagoth

Post » Sun Mar 21, 2010 12:39 pm

I don't know if this has been done before. I searched without success.

Some Ash Vampires have very interesting dialogue.

Spoiler
For example, Dagoth Endus is well mannered. Upon greeting, he ask the player if he's interesting in sharing an ancient Dagoth Brandy before the fight. He even end the conversation by saying : "Whenever you're ready, then? You're the challenger, and I am your host. So honor demands that you deliver the first blow."

Unfortunately, those dialogue are mostly inaccessible unless the player cast a calm spell or sneak to the dagoth. It would be nice to unlock those. Make them possible naturally without having to cast a spell or sneak.

So my questions are:

1) Has this been done before?

2) Is it an interesting idea?

3) Could it be expanded even more (lore-wise of course)?

I'd like to have feedback from the Community. It's a project I'd like to do. :D If it's not too much asking from a CS pseudo-neophyte.

Cheers,

Koldunic

Yeah, I love those little snippets. The dialogue from the Ascended Sleepers in Kogoruhn is even more interesting. I guess originally the ash vampires were meant to be passive till you struck the first blow - but for balance reasons it made more sense for them to attack you on sight. You could always do a force greet the way dagoth gares does? I love anything that expands the sixth house dialogue, so go for it!

It would be a simple and very welcome tweak in my opinion, so I say go for it! :D My only concern would be conflicts with mods like Von's excellent The Tribe Unmourned.

Some mods like http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=801 by the Mad God put the Ash Vampires on passive stance, allowing a "peaceful" dialogue with them and often expand the discussion. Tureynul is a rumor mill in this mod. the Tribe Unmourned is usually compatible with such mods.

I never tried The Great House Dagoth, but I heard much praised about it. Does it change/erase the main quest and change it with the new one?

I don't want to do something that is already done, and done good. ;)

The main quest is...I guess the word would be adjusted in the GHD mod. After you meet Dagoth Gares it goes into a different direction and the player goes through the phases of learning to control the effects of corprus and evolves through each ash creature stage (ash slave, ash zombie, ash priest, Ascended Sleeper, Ash Vampire.) At the Ash Vampire stage you have the ability to return to your normal form. That is when the main quest returns to the normal path but the difference is, you are playing the part of the Nerevarine for Dagoth Ur rather than the Empire (or you can still be loyal to the Empire and only be pretending to be loyal to Voryn. That part is entirely up to you.)

I really think MadGod did a brilliant job with GHD version of the main quest because the Nerevarine Prophecies ARE fulfilled..just not in the way everyone thinks they should be. If you need more information my fanfic is sort of a fancy walk-through. It was read and liked by MadGod himself I might add. :)

And while I've read a huge deal of fanfic ( and not only from the elders scrolls fandom ), it is one of the most enthralling I've the pleasure to read / relish. Hell I've discovered, installed the GHD and some other mods with this saga. So yes, thrice yes both are more than worth to be praised and savoured.

I will definitively read that fan fic! :)

I will check Great House Dagoth, The Tribe Unmourned and Charming Ash Vampire and then I'll decide If I do something out on my own for the conversations. ;)

Does anyone know if these can be made to work with Darknut's Greater Dwemer Ruins?

The Tribe Unmourned is fully compatible with Darknut's Greater Ruins, for the compatiblity patch between Darknut's GDR and Great House Dagoth it's http://www.elricm.com/nuke/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownloaddetails&lid=4319.
For any question about the mod there is an official topic on this forum.
