[Question] Converting models to nif

Post » Wed Apr 02, 2014 3:09 pm

Hello,

I'm looking for help regarding converting models to nif format. I would like to try my hand at creating some meshes, but I have zero experience with Blender. I have some experience with Cinema4D, though. Unfortunatelly, nif scripts have no version for Cinema, so I need to export the resulting model first in different format(obj maybe?), load it in blender and then save it as nif. Problem is that I tried this in the past and failed to do so. Does anyone have any experience with this? I found an old tutorial in tutorials thread, but it was not for Cinema and all pics showing the settings were gone.

Any help would be appreciated :)

You can definitely export an obj from Cinema and import it into Blender and then export it as a NIF, but, from my experience (which may equate to ignorance), that always seems to remove the material properties (and maybe the UV too, I haven't done it in a while). So it may take a little extra work as opposed to just creating something in Blender.

But I could have just been importing the obj incorrectly, because I seem to remember that some obj files come with a mtl file or something which I assume contains the material properties... but I don't know how to import that along with the obj. :P
