Convince me so that i dont regret it...

Ok guys, as i learn more and more about this game, everything seems great. i would have to say that my biggest concern is replayability but i guess according to you guys that shouldnt be a problem, but i still think it will.

if you think about it, what other good and quality shooters are coming out after brink? none. all of the other quality shooters will come out in the fall, so thats why im hoping this game is a hit.

i really want to preorder, but ive been dissappointed in many games. an example would be homefront, which just came out last month. its a very fun game, but its issues were off the chart. 5 FREEZES IN 20 MINUTES. see how ridiculous that is? they refused to have any sort of beta closer to release, and they suffered for it big time. THQs stock dropped significantly, not to mention they were forced to fire a bunch of their workers.

whenever i go on youtube to watch videos, i see people commenting saying things like, BEWARE BETHESDA SOFTWORKS! THEY RELEASE BUGGY GAMES.
now, i have no idea about bethesdas background. even though theyre only the publisher, the game could still be buggy because of them right? but this game had a ps3 closed beta, and a few paid testers? idk guys.......................... its a tough situation. :cryvaultboy:

As you said, Bethesda is merely the publisher. Plus, Splash Damage is an extremely experienced team, and from what I hear, they were done with content a good while ago and have been polishing and bug-fixing since.

hah. thats what people on the homefront forums were saying. they were saying things like, THQ is awesome, they wont mess up. but behold.... they did.

also, wouldnt it be pretty easy for SD to include a standard tdm mode, and a demolition type gamemode..... just to appeal to more gamers...? its not too late right, since it hasnt gone gold...

The difference being that Homefront looked like a CoD clone from the very start. Especially when they turned out to have killstreaks.

And there will be maps with demoltion type objectives. TDM conflicts with the teamplay aspect of the game though, it would just teach people to play like a lone wolf.

actually homefront doesnt have killstreaks, i dont know who gave you the info that it did. battle points are completely different, since you can die all you want to get your " killstreak " bonus.

and also... i know tdm teaches ppl to play like a lone wolf, but im just saying it wouldnt be hard for SD to add these things for a wider variety of gamers. y'know?

If you already know that much about the game, then the most anyone can suggest is the http://www.fragworld.org/frag/community-blogs/brink-info-pt-1-story-gameplay-smart-classes-and-objectives.html

All the information anyone has at the moment is at least partially controlled by the devs, but as far as i have seen, every single person that has played the demo and talked about it has had fun with it, save that cod-head seananners.

If you've been burned by other games, and are too worried to want to pre-order...

Be one of those guys who doesn't pre-order, waits for reviews, and picks the game up off the shelf soon after release if the reviews are good.

Problem? No problem.

Oh, so theyre not the EXACT same thing, cuz deaths dont take away from your killstreaks in that game, i was so mistaken.

Well, SD has been careful to make just about every aspect of the game kinda nudge people to help eachother and work together. It seems like having a game mode where people could run around by themselves and do ok would teach them to play that way with other objectives, so there would be less teamwork when they moved into another game. Also, I don't think extermination would really fit with the whole storyline. Maybe as a what-if mission. But we dont know enough to say that its NOT a what-if mission already

As some others have mentioned, Bethesda is the publisher, and Splash Damage has a lot of experience making quality games. Aside from that, it also sounds like this game has been getting the attention it deserves from everyone involved in making sure it works, and it hasn't been rushed out before it's ready. I'm not saying it will be perfect, but it sounds like due diligence has been taken to insure a quality and working game. The game should be solid. Whether or not it's to your taste is a matter of opinion, and whether or not you pre-order is your choice. We're all big fans here, of course, but most of us probably haven't played the game, so I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to convince you to pre-order. If you like what you've seen, go for it. Otherwise, wait for release and reviews. No harm done either way. :)

I'm seconding this.

It's more likely to be the video you're watching that's skipping frames, not an actual framerate problem in the game.

One thing that has to be kept in mind is what Brink brings to the table:

-Deep character customization
-The SMART system which is what I am most intrigued to play
-The objective based maps
-The blending of the Single Player and Multiplayer experience

Splash Damage is a very talented group of people and if anyone knows how to pull this off it would be them. If you don't know if it will be good and don't want to pre-order then that is totally fine. All you will miss out on are some avatar shirt, tattoos, and other cosmetic things. Wait for reviews and then decide if it is worth your time, but more importantly, and money.

lol. Since when did the forum get into trying to convince people to buy a game? A lot of this is pure guess work that we're arguing about. If you're worried about the game, wait for the reviews. Regardless, I promise you now, there will be things you don't like and you can make a decision then about whether you can live with them or not. It's a game...not a tattoo.

It's around 2015. Scientists have made a giant man-made island, called the Ark. It is to house a maximum of 5,000 scientists, and everything is completely renewable.

Now it's 2045. You know when Al Gore said in An Inconvenient Truth that global warming could flood the world? That happened. Everyone is dead. The few survivors escaped to the Ark, which went from 5,000 max people to 50,000. There isn't enough food and fresh water to go around, and all of it is being hoarded by the original 5,000 - The Founders.

The Resistance is born, fighting for equal food, water, and resources. In return, the Security is born, fighting to save the Ark and to preserve the Founders' vision.

Some reasons that this is not any old shooter:

-There is no good guy or bad guy. The Resistance see the Security as oppressive and cruel. The Security see the Resistance as terrorists.
-SMART movement system. Hold down a button, and you seamlessly vault, mantle, and slide with ease. Mix that with actual jumping and crouching, and you can walljump, leap across large gaps, and slide tackle - Without having to be a pro!
-Ultra customization. Customize your hat. Your armor. Your tattoos. The iron sights on your gun. The grenade launcher on your shotgun. The double-ammo magazine on your SMG. Even your accent.
-Mingleplayer - There is NO difference between singleplayer, co-op, and multiplayer. Multiplayer is just taking the campaign and replacing all the bots with real people.
-Complete removal of no-skill kills. No noobtubes. No airstrikes instantly killing your team. Every attack that the enemy does, you can counter it. The control is in your hands.

You're welcome.

BEWARE BETHESDA SOFTWORKS! THEY RELEASE BUGGY GAMES.

Since when does Bethesda Softworks ever make games? Bethesda Game Studios creates their games. Besides Fallout 3 wasn't very bugged, New Vegas was, but that was made by Obsidian Not Bethesda. Oblivion was also not very bugged (I mean there was some but nothing bad.)

Bethesda games tend to have bugs from the sheer size of them. When your game world is best measured in square miles, has hundreds of unique missions, dozens and dozens of interiors, without any forced path, there are bound to be some bugs that slip through.
