Cooking confirmed in fallout 4

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 7:48 am

Like the title says I was anolyzing the e3 gameplay and came across something cool, When the pc moved the crosshair by the side of the red rocket gas station you can clearly see that there is a cooking station. So it's pretty much 100% confirmed that cooking will be present, And if cooking is present then why not a hunger system? (hardcoe Mode)

That's great! Those items we make in campfires in New Vegas did really helped, with those kinds of bonuses like the +1 STR from brahmin steak and other items...

Oh, and for some perks like cannibals or animal friend or something along that line, it would be great if they allow you to cook additional recipes like *ahem* human steak (errr that sounds horrible), plant dishes (because we are friends with animals, we might not bring to eat them even in a wasteland... More of a RP choice i guess haha), and maybe variations of pre-war food e.g. sugar bomb pies (a.k.a. diabetes pie), chips and cram etc.

Oh my god roleplaying a cannibal would be the best thing ever.

Skyrim had a cooking system without a hunger system. I expect the same for Fallout honestly. Cooking food will net you bonuses and the like, anything from rad removal to increased ap regeneration, but I doubt there will be a hunger mechanic.

Mods will change that though, for sure.

Cooking is great. I enjoyed the cooking in NV. As for hunger mechanics, I was rather underwhelmed by NVs hardcoe mode. Eat/drink once a day and that's it. By level 5 my fridge contained more food than I could eat for the rest of the game. Negligible feature.

Now, we only need some female cooks to get as companions for fixing morning coffee and lunch!

Except all the hunger/needs mods have all required a script extender which is unlikely to be allowed on the console versions (Due to the way it interfaces with the executable), so unless the extra scripting is available in the core files or there's a hardcoe mode, then console users may be stuck having to role play hunger requirements.

NV had it all and seeing as the survival features exist and even in mods lately from Skyrim (which be honest, they left Cooking open because they knew modders would make their own hardcoe Modes), it might be a possibility of being in FO4. I am hoping. hardcoe Mode in NV was a game-changer for sure and easily one of the best, if not the best gameplay feature. Haven't played without it since.

It's kinda expected to be a part of the game, still, I'm glad it's confirmed !

Good to hear, hopefully that means that hunger/thirst/sleep mechanics are implemented as well. As well as ammo weight, and maybe cap (the money) weight.

They had the pointless cooking system in Skyrim too remember. It was utterly useless since it just recovered a tiny bit of health, which would have regenerated anyway within a few seconds.

At least F4 does not have health regen. Well at least not from the get go anyway. It definitely does need to have food, water sleep requirements, or at least an option to enable them. And a mode to make them quite harsh for those of us that want a brutal wasteland survival experience.

Yup, compared to potions in Skyrim and stimpaks in Fallout, foods are lackluster in healing... That's why medicine skill always helps!

But the catches for foods are their additional effects! Like for example in NV with those brahmin steaks, caravan lunches, etc. and Skyrim with Elsweyr fondue (quite useful for mages) and such...

Foods are more valued for their additional effects, am I right? (and for those who want to RP)

Remember, if you build a settlement... you can have traders come, so if you do cook food... it could possibly be an item sold... and traded in your caravans.

I think the drugs fill that role better in Fallout, and obviously potions in ES.

Let's just make a robot cook, which could be Codsworth, I assume? Codsworth is said to be a companion. If he can cook for us, that would really fit him! He's a butler, after all, and although not a cook, what is the use of that flamer in one of his "hands" other than for burning people? Burning raw meat to steak for us to eat!

"Wow, Vault Dweller, where'd you learn to cook?"

Vault Dweller: (cheesy 50's Dad voice) "Well you see, sport, it's important to eat well. Especially in the middle of a wasteland. Which is not all that different from when the Wife is out of town, am I right?"

[canned audience laughter]
