Cool character names

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:57 pm

Wouldn't be surprised if Gandalf was a norse name, then again it always reminds me of that old fart from LOTR. Why did everyone like him? cause he knows magic?

I'd rather be a character from the series 'spartacus' trixus or whatever his name is is the coolest :P.

I usually go with names that fit the naming coneventions of that particular race, so if I play an Imperial I will use a roman name, as every other imperial does. A breton (Not that I ever play one) would have a french sounding name while a Dunmer would have...well, I don't really know what Dunmer names are based on but I know how they sound in general, my first character is always a Dunmer and while I can't remember my original character's name it'll be something along the lines of "Varen Dres" or something like that, I'll probably look up some Dunmer characters and then pick a first and last name from two to mix and match it into a decent sounding name.

My Surname is Norse, so I am loving the setting for this game.

A few generations back, I had a grandfather named, Thoren. Sometimes characters are named after him. If they are female, sometimes they are called, Thora.

The name is derived of course, from Norse mythology.

As I am thinking about playing as a Seidkonoa, the name "Sibyl," and some of it's varities are getting a lot of thought.

Freyja, the name of a goddess, probably the most famous female goddess in Norse mythology. Ulf is (male for wolf), Ylva (she-wolf), are names I like to consider when doing Norse themes. And don't forget the bear names, Ursa and Ursula.

Do a little research of Norse Mythology and you will begin to find many interesting, and possibly even lore correct names.

This site has an excellent selection of names, and is divided into various categories"

Good luck with your name search...

Not a problem telling you names I like, because, they have all been used before, and In single player games, one can use any name one chooses.

I'll be using my signature Orc name, Orgbul gro-Shagdunn, for my first Orsimer character. And I usually name at least one Argonian Weaves-His-Fate, and one Khajiit Aksharra (female).

Actually, in response to those bear names (Ursa and Ursula) those are not norse, the only norse name I can think of that means bear is "Bj?rn" or Bjorn as you americans would spell it. Ursa and Ursula are russion if I'm not mistaken. I've certainly never heard those two names in connection to Norse mythology or culture before, and being Norwegian I dare say I have a fairly decent grip on that kind of thing.

I usually play at least one Argonian or Khajit character, mostly Khajiit as they're my second favourite race after Dunmer. I love naming those races. Any Argonian character I play always has the same name, which is "Can't Be Arsed" :P My Khajiit back in Morrowind and Oblivion was named S'virr Sugartongue, and was obviously quite fond of moonsugar and Skooma.

Latin

Well there you go, I was mistaken. And come to think of it I really should've known that, it makes perfect sense in retrospect.

Regardless, they are not Norse, so I was right about what matters :P

Ursa is actually Latin (seems those high school Latin classes came in handy :P), but Ursula isn't explicitly Latin. After a Google search most sites say that it is derived from Ursa, of course, but is actually Scandinavian.

EDIT: :ninja: 'd

I don't know what race I'll choose to play, but I know that at my first character I'll give him my own name. :D
I just wanna feel like It's me in the game and that's a basic thing to do in my playthrough.

Vidar or Skadi.. depending if it's a male or female respectivly.

Both derive from the Norse pantheon, two of the lesser known of the gods/godess'.

I'm going to name my character some Welsh/Cornish/Breton*/Gaelic-influenced, while maintaining lore accuracy by giving him a family name depending on the race (if I decide on giving him a surname). Kaidhronow would be a suitable first name.

*That's the real-life Breton language, the one spoken in Brittany, France.

My first character's name will be Lifts-her-Tail.

If spears are in, she'll definitely be using one of those.
