Cool Dragons... That's a change!

Discussion of Dragons! Cool right?

I recently got a new wallpaper for my desktop. It has a Dragon from Skyrim (unless its a fake, which idk). I really like the way Beth designed the dragons. Their not too lizard-like, or too bird-like or anything, they look like... Dragons! And it all makes sense, I can see that it's tail is spear-like at towards the tip, so thats probably a weapon it has, they obviously breathe fire, probably have awesome claws. Only thing I may not like in Skyrim, is the fact that the pic of the Dragon I have, it's wings are all torn up. It has a few holes, and the edges look kind of weak. I mean, really old dragons, which most of them are, is understandable why they have torn wings, and scars. Because they've been in hundreds of fights! But when every single Dragon has holes in its wings... It just gets old.

So what do you all think of the dragons of Skyrim? (if you've seen them) Not cute and cuddly enough? Too cute and cuddly? (How is that possible?!?) Think they should've been more serpent like? Personally, I think Beth nailed it!.. Except the holes...

OP updated with link to the pic of the Dragon... I can't tell if thats a screen or a magazine scan, so I hope I'm not wrong in linking that. (Looks pretty good quality to me! Google'd 'Skyrim Wallpaper')

A game developer confirmed it's a in-game pic.

Yes, I'm just as sceptical as you.

I wouldn't be too surprised if it was, but my gut says no. Hopefully my gut is wrong.

Normally I hate dragons. Hate hate hate them. They're the most awful, hackneyed garbage in almost every fantasy series they appear in. But somehow, I find myself looking at Skyrim's dragons, and reading about them, and against my will, I find myself thinking they sound so [censored] awesome.

Maybe I played too much Monster Hunter, but given the quality of that picture, I would rage if it's not in-game.

Am I the only one with a sneaking suspicion that the Dragons came first, then the new engine, when they found they just couldn't pull them off in Gamebryo?

I think you may be right. I'm sure they would not get a new engine if they did not have to.

Can't help but agree with you, is it me, or do all the available pictures of Skyrim wyverns look pretty much the same?

Skyrim isn't Dragon Simulator 2011, but I believe it will be the first RPG ever where you actually feel like you are fighting a dragon. No scripted stuff, dice roll combat, or QTEs(hopefully).

As long as they don't make them too wyvern-like and instead more of their own style, I'm cool with it.

Actually, those holes look pretty good in my opinion.
When I read what you said, I though its wings will look like as if someone shoot it with a mini-gun.
They look perfectly fine in my opinion.

I also like those holes in the wings.

The only problem is all the dragons of this type will probably have the same holes in the same places, there should be some variation for every dragon of the same type, but that probably won't be the case.

They look great though.

We've all ready seen some goul enemies that look different. At the very least, we'll get dragons at different strength levels that look different.

These dragon models remind me a little of some of the Wyverns from Monster Hunter. There's one screenshot floating around featuring a grounded dragon breathing fire that really captures some of the similarities in appearance. Overall I like the look. It's certainly more satisfyingly stylized than the ones from Dragon Age.
