"Cool" Games?

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 9:13 am

In a lot of cases, it does. I don't care what games anyone plays, but I'd consider COD a lot cooler than something like Dragons Age 2. In one of my classes the prof asked who played Blops, almost all the guys put up their hands, then she asked about DA2, nobody put up their hand. Pretty small sample but you can get how rpgs are still stigmatized.

Then why are you on the Bethesda forums if you think RPG's which are the bread and butter of Beth are not cool or fun or what ahve you.

I would nto say CoD is the coolest game series, its fun and all, but I got more enjoyment out of OB and FO, so in my books those are cooler than CoD.

It may sound silly or stupid but IMO you choose what's cool. Just because most people think COD is AweEsOME pWN U NeWvbs <_< I don't. Also it depends on your context, I'm 100% sure in these forums over...80% of the members would say TES, FO or even DA is cooler than COD.

EDIT: I had never heard the expression Blops, had to google it :P

I'm just pointing it out, I never said rpgs are stupid and you're a nerd if you play them, I was just pointing out that in general fps's are considered cooler. I like TES and Fallout but not really any other rpgs, and surprise, everyone has different tastes. I'm on the Bethesda forums, not the rpg forums.

I agree with you, I just meant that generally, COD is considered to be cooler. I think both COD and TES are a lot of fun, but I get enjoyment from them in different ways. I can't have beers with friends and let them watch me play FONV, but I also don't play COD on my own too much.

You know, I was never into dolls/action figures. Wasnt interested in dressing em up and outfitting them to make them look good. But in a video game, that all changes, I want to play dress up with my video game character.

Oh, I was totally interested in dolls and action figures....

Blowing them up with fireworks, that is.

Halo is nowhere near as cool as COD

I had dolls/action figures when I was smaller, but meh, wasnt anything special, they just went into the closet and under the bed few mins after opening them.

I know when I was a child, if I were to play dress up with my dolls/action figures I'd be made fun of, just because I was a male playing dress up with the toys, but video games helped break barriers, boys play dress up with virtual dolls all the time, nobody makes fun of em for the same reason as if it were an actual doll/action figure

Socially acceptable = / = cool.

Socially unacceptable = cool. :P

Seriously though, people who think that only games like Call of Duty are any good are lame. My counter to anyone who tells me to correct the way I think is this: "You're more than welcome to your opinion on the matter, as long as you realize you're wrong." :P

The only reason that Halo isn't as "cool" as Call of Duty is because the current generation is the one that plays it the most. That being said, they're hyped up on teen angst and have a very idealized view of war due to the constant media coverage of the current war.

Basically they like it because they now have a "superhero" style ideal of soldiers. Which is partially true, in the sense that they are very brave men and women. I hardly think they all pull moves like Soap from MW2 every day though.

Yep. I don't own COD and only play with friends and I enjoy it but then again I would never play an RPG with friends near. Trying to RP over here!

Yes it is (no I don't own Halo but it's better IMO) :P And where did Halo come from?

Indeed :P I wasn't saying that obviously. Something can be both accepted AND cool but this is not mandatory. Something that isn't accepted can be cool and vice versa

Well the whole problem is that if the "cool" people say it is "cool" then it is "cool". I fthey say it si "not cool" then everyone who bends over for the "popular people" thinks its "not cool".

Like when a last year some popular kids got into a argument about Yu-Gi-Oh, they were debating which one was the coolest and how cool it was in general.

My friend pointed out to me that if my group fo friends started talking like that thet'd be all over us for beign nerds. Same goes for this example, I was playing Boxhead: Two Play with one of teh popular kids, I wa friends with him, btu some of teh others I was nto friends with. One of them said it was nerdy and used other derogatory terms for it, adn then when the popular kid I was playing the game with said it was "beast" they all started to agree that ti was "beast".

So really it is all part of the group mentality and media presentation. The media these days shows the Football Captain as hating on nerds and nerdy activities when the Football Captain could easily play DnD.

So, to sum it up, Halo isnt nearly as cool as COD and COD is uber cool. :hubbahubba:

You said in general FPSs are cool, and I'm just mentioning how Halo isnt really cool, or nowhere near cool enough to be a competitor for Coolest Game.

As much as I hate to say, that guy (the jock) does have a point, playing cod is a lot more socially acceptable than something like WoW.

I never knew that WoW wasn't socially acceptable. I hear people talking about it all the time. I'm also not saying that every jock or popular person says that, I was just giving an example of one. I know a few jocks that love oblivion and are stoked for skyrim.

No, to sum it up Call of Duty just rips settings from real wars, whereas Halo creates their own history and conflict.

And Call of Duty is nowhere NEAR the coolest game evah, regardless of what some people say/think.

When I think about what is considered a cool game I think of it this way

If everyone in the world were to choose one game, and one game only, what would that one game be. What would be the top picks

i agree with you totally. Even though I really don't like halo except for reach. I like Halo: 3, but only for the multiplayer at parties or something.

and since we are on the topic, i can't post a link because of the language factor, but look up "Xbox Achievements" on youtube. Totally reminds me of CoD and how it is so "Realistic."

:nono: I said they were generally considered cool. Most FPSs are IMO (COD included, perhaps leading the charts) seriously uncool :P RPGs like TES and FO on the other hand are sub zero

10+ million people disagree. Hell, even my brother's dumb jock friend loved Fallout 3, because he got to do whatever he wanted.

yeah, lots of the popular kids at my school are Blops lovers.

but the funny thing is they think thats the only shooter and none of them have ever heard of Red Orchestra, Killing Floor, Half life, or even counterstrike.

Fantasy RPGs ARE nerd videogames, and military shooters ARE cool videogames. You'll have to accept this. It's just a fact.

The only reason people who play those games are nerds is because the media has labeled them as that. I could give you examples of cool kids and Football team captains playign DND.
