coop? :3

1. You brought up all sorts of other things, when all the op mentioned was coop.

2. You brought that up as well.

3. So you don't know who or what or why in regards to opposion to coop or varying levels of multiplayer in regards to a fallout universe game. It's presumably why you used "argument ad absurdum" previously.

4. I don't think I've claimed to know the solution to every problem in this regard, but it served as an example that problems can get solved, thoug might possibly, not allways, require compromise.

5. But none that complete fullfill everyones wish and thus it is ALLWAYS an amalgam of more or less compromise.

6. I believe that the impact of coop depends completely on how it is implemented. It can vary from very high impact to minimal and nigh unnoticeable.

I don't know what the op meant by coop and I can only speak for myself in this regard and when I say fallout game with optional coop I mean the following:

The exact same game as we would usually get, with the additional option that my npc follower(s) can be played by a human and/or that another player(s) can create a custom character and appear as my companion.

The host would be "in the driver seat" so to speak and make quest decisions and dialogue choices, which the other player(s) would observe.

It should provide minimal impact on singleplayers other than offcouse some undefinable amount development ressources going to implementation.

The coop experience itself, should be as equal to regular singleplayer experience as possible, with the difference that hopefully you would have smarter companions and the social aspects of sharing the openworld exploring, the creativity of settlements now and the stories with another person(s).

That's the coop I would like... minimal impact on others who enjoy the games as they are, completely optional and with the coop experience staying as true to the normal gaming experience as possible.

Selfish? Yes, to a certain degree, but not overly so and I'd say not hypocrital, since I think it tries to equally respect others wishes as well.

PS: Btw. I fully acknowledge that gaming companies have been ... less than stellar... at implementing things like coop or multiplayer so far. Often going way too overboard and forgetting what made their games special.

As far as I know... I don't know of any companies that have tried the above level of implementation and succeeded? It would be nice to see it done "right" imho.

They destroyed Elder Scrolls by making an MMO of it. Thankfully they were forced by court order to never make a Fallout MMO

Do you understand why Morrowind has spears and why Oblivion and Skyrim do not?

This effect is far less today than it was then Oblivion was released, game probably helped a lot showing that pure single player was an good option.

Today games are either single or multi player with an small single player part.

They cold probably make an poor coop game where you friend is your follower, people will anyway complain about this.

No, they weren't.

When Bethesda bought the rights for Fallout outright, Interplay leased back the rights to make a Fallout MMO. There were a few restrictions, Interplay had to show some actual work by a certain date, had to have a certain amount of cash available to develop and support the game and they couldn't just farm it out to a third party without Bethesda Softwork's OK.

By the set date, they had a few bits of concept art, a cash flow that was non-existent and they contracted a third party to do the work with notifying Bethesda. gamesas took them to court to enforce the annulment of the contract, Interplay made a counter-claim apparently claiming that Bethesda trying to enforce the contract nullified the original sale and rights reverted back to Interplay.

In the end, Interplay lost the rights to a Fallout MMO (Which was looking like it was never going to happen with Interplay so close to it's end). Bethesda paid out a cash amount and the rights to an MMO reverted to Bethesda again.

There is no court order preventing Bethesda/Zenimax making a Fallout MMO.

edit: Also, how have they destroued Elder Scrolls? Or are you one of those who think that because there's an MMO there won't be a single Player TES again?

implementing co-op or multi-player would invariably take something away from the single player experience. I'm glad it's not being included - and I hope it's never included in future titles.

The tricky thing is that the majority of the Fallout players probably want it in. Those who play Fallout like they play Skyrim, The Witcher, Dying Light, Call of Duty, Far Cry, Tomb Raider etc. For most Fallout players the franchise is one of the many that they like, instead of the one series they obsess about. I don't think they see how coop would destroy the singleplayer experience. I'm really thankful Bethesda decided not to implement any coop elements. They may not make the choices Obsidian makes most of the time, but Fallout is in good hands with Bethesda imo. Though it would be very cool if they gave either Obsidian or InXile the opportunity to create a Fallout game after Fallout 4, while Bethesda works on their next TES. :)

This is also how I understand it.

And ESO is a separate game developed by an separate company, Bethesda has just done constituting on lore and similar.

An Fallout MMO will depend on how ESO works out over time and how large marked they think it is for it. even if its under development now we will not see it before around 2020 anyway.

I used to be a huge supporter of co-op in Fallout games. But after playing many games with friends I've come to the conclusion, that I get tired of playing games with them, and that if I was just playing on my own the game would be more enjoyable. I don't want that to happen to Fallout, it has always been a game that an individual can enjoy, it's a sacred experience. If you don't have a friend that is as immersed as you are in the game, you're going to have a poor experience. The Last of Us got game of the year because of it's single player. Would it of been as enjoyable if you had a friend that was screaming over the cut scenes, or sniffling over dialogue? These type of games are like films, the more immersed you are the more enjoyable they get, and its hard to get immersed in a film when the audience is being obnoxious.

So no thank you, I don't want co-op in Fallout. A multiplayer Elder Scrolls took the role-playing and immersion out of the series, a multiplayer Fallout would do the same thing.
