Copy pasta from program filesx86 to new dir?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 11:30 pm

Is it possible to copy paste oblivion file [from Program Files(x86) to say C:\tes4\] then do some regedit haxx, to avoid reinstalling Oblivion? (mainly reinstalling FCOM is the main hassle of this process). I think that reinstalling oblivion, then copypasta-ing just the data folder will work, but not entirely sure.

The main reason to this is because Wrye Bash is behaving oddly, and I cannot find a fix for my specific problem. I am not an experienced Bash/Bain user. There is no .exe file for wrye bash, and to run Wrye Bash, i use the PythonBash Launcher.py (not sure if that is the correct file name or w/e, at work atm typing this). I currently have the 2.7 python version and 294 Wrye Bash (released on Aug 1 2011). I used the archived version from TESnexus, not the installer. However, I did run the installer to install python and win32python?

This isnt a serious CTD issue causing problem or anything, more out of curiosity and avoiding future hassles down the road. And I would like to get to know how to use Wrye Bash, in preperation for Skyrim as well!

Its much simpler to copy the Oblivion x86 files to a back up folder.
Unistall Oblivion, reinstall oblivion to a folder outside of x86 and then copy your backup folder on top of the new install folder.
I'm still on xp, but I have all my oblivion stuff on D:\Games.
editing the registry is a pain and could really f up your pc if you miss something.

I actually just had to do this about an hour ago, except I had to add it to the registry instead of modifying it.

I personally think its easier to do the regedit. Mine is below.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion]"Installed Path"="E:\\Oblivion Graphically Enhanced\\" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\1.00.0000][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion - Shivering Isles][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion - Shivering Isles\1.00.0000]

Where it says install path just place your new install path.
