Copyright Issues?

Has anyone had any copyright issues when showing videos of your personalized Morrowind with a custom soundtrack? I plan to record some gameplay soon that I really want to show off, but I'm worried about copyright issues because my custom soundtrack has some Daggerfall tunes and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8454 shared by the Morrowind mod community.

Uploading footage of video games unto itself can get you in trouble on YouTube. However, I'd be more concerned about getting pinched over the music, since I've yet to see anyone lose their account over their Let's Play of Minecraft, while the number of accounts lost over copyright infringement complaints by Warner Music Group and such is probably in the thousands.

You didn't ask about this, but I feel compelled to mention that your number of subscribers is irrelevant to your chances of getting busted. I've seen people get banned who didn't have more than ten subs.

Entirely depends if the "owner" of the music decides to push the issue. Since Bethesda owns the Daggerfall music and they rarely ever have problems with people using their stuff for something(beyond just passing it out to people), you are probably fine there. As for this other guy, you should probably simply ask him. If he has disappeared, you decide what to do.

That worries me a littIe more. Though I know of one who was successful, and it is Veriax who prevented copyright issues with his Oblivion LP (that he completed not too long ago, which was 300+ parts). His custom soundtrack went from movie music to music from other RPGs (from Diablo, Morrowind, etc), so I feel like I have a chance.

Just bear in mind that in his vids, the music isn't going to be as noticeable since he's talking over it quite a bit. And how exactly did he "prevent" copyright issues?

Well I guess not preventing them, but I know he was concerned about them because of the copyright disclaimer notice he always put in his descriptions for his Oblivion LP.

A lot of people do that lately, I've noticed, and I wouldn't be able to tell you if it helps or not.

I 'd say go ahead and do it , give credit in the description,i doubt you will have any issues in this particular case and in the extremely unlikely event there is , the worst that will happen is your video gets pulled or most probably the music will get replaced with some random non copyright music.

Countless others have done similar stuff with out problems, it's your call though , I would go ahead with it myself if i felt so inspired to do something similar.

What you are proposing here is fan art that is paying tribute to and promoting the talents of others, it is not like you are trying to make money or affect an artists ability to make money from their work so this is why i would not be concerned about copyright law in this particular instance.

P.S. When you have done the deed please post a link and i will add it to my list of Morrowind videos (see signature) where it will be in good company alongside similar works of fan art .

Click on the second link in my sig. That video has been up since 2007 and Youtube has never given me any grief over it. And it's not like they ignore me, I've had trouble with some music videos I put up.
