Hi all I seem to be having major problems with fallout 4, I have;

4.2 GHz - 4 CPU

12g RAM

AMD Radeon R9 380 with 4g vram

I run fallout 4 on 1080p with very low settings, due to wanting the game run smoothly and not caring about graphics - yet I am still having issues, the big one is that in certain area's my core clock maxes out at 980 MHz and crashes the game with a 'your driver software has failed and has been restarted' message, I have even tried overclocking the gpu core to its max and the game demands it all and crashes, up to 1200 MHz.

Mostly the game runs fine even in the city yet certain places will cause this to happen over and over and I am in constant fear while I'm playing that it will come crashing down as it keeps doing - its ruining all the fun, is there anything I could be doing that is making this happen? Bethesda says my game should be able to handle ultra yet I cant get it to work on medium without stuttering.

No reason not to run max settings with that setup and still get 60 FPS. I was doing it with my 7970M. Must be driver issue. I got that error all the time with other games with AMD.

If you are getting display driver failures, increasing the core clock is the exact opposite of what you want to do.

Granted, it should have zero issues at stock clocks, but increasing the clocks will make the driver crash more quickly. The GPU should run at the maximum clock rate 95% of the time, while gaming. It could be crashing due to a problematic driver. Driver issues can affect certain games while others will be unaffected.

Use a hardware monitoring software (e.g. MSI Afterburner) to determine whether or not it is heat related. Any temperature over 80C is suspect, although GPU generally run up to 100-105C.

100-105? That gpu is rated at 95c tops. That temp will fry the gpu. Best to try and keep it below 80c. The hotter the card runs, the bigger the chance of artifacting.

Also if a card does get too hot it will shut itself down. The latest AMD Crimson something.did something to the fan profile. Use MSI afterburner to create a fan profile that will keep the card cooler. as well as monitor the temps, as the other person said.

well the temp sure isn't the problem, its very low 20-40C - I upgraded recently from an older amd card so as this post was started I have been cleaning and reinstalling the driver more thoroughly then I did when I first got it to see if older hidden files were ruining anything...

i think your talking about the cpu temps. The gpu temps will be higher. Unless your using a custom made liquid loop.

Download gpuz. Use the sensors tab to show the highest temp on the gpu. Run it while gaming for a little while, then check the temperature. You can also use it to see the highest fan speed, both gpu memory and gpu core clock, as well as several other gpu related stuff. You can get it here.

well my GPU temp was at max 46C while I was playing fallout 4 for a few hours - CPU was at a max 49C, completely cleaning and reinstalling the updated driver was the fix it seems, some older files must have been creating the issues as my game seems to be working great now... I just hope it holds steady - pagefile still uses about 10g while I play though, is that too high?
