Corkbulb projectiles?

Post » Mon Aug 24, 2009 6:22 am

I was snooping around UESP and came across http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Base_Weapons#Arrows and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Base_Weapons#Bolts. I've never seen these. what's the deal? are the one of those things that's in the game files but not in tthe game? Do they exist and are simply the rarest arrows and bolts to be had in morrowind?

They can be found in the game.
A few merchants have them, and they are in leveled lists.

They're pretty random. But yes the exist in game and are not particularly good.

For me they represent yet another great immersive aspect anyway. There are corkbulbs in the game, and people have crafted some basic arrows and bolts out of them. There's a great sense of raw materials and manufacturing something from them.

I think I've only seen them once or twice, too.

I find them often in leveled containers. I don't know if it's because I always use the Marksman mod or not. I agree that they are NOT particularly good. They shoot like a corkscrew and do little damage. I like them about as much as I do Chitin arrows. I simply stow them away someplace as collector items.

iirc, you can buy them in Sadrith Mora from the same street vendor you can buy Bonemold Bows from. She (I think it's a female Redguard) also sells the crooked as hell bonemold arrows.

a cork screw? really? like... helical trajectory? weird.

and yes, I do love me some Chitin arrows.

It boggles me that the dunmer can craft bone into sleek smooth bows but their arrows of the same material look like the ones i made as a six-year-old out of sticks in the backyard.

So I was in the Fletcher's Shop that comes with the Marksman mod in Vivec, and saw that she sells Corkbulb arrows. I bought 25 of them to take another look at them. Granted now, my character has a marksman skill of 80, but I found that they are not as bad as I had always imagined. When they are in the bow they are as crooked as bonemold arrows. But they do shoot true and I was able to pick off and kill Cliff Racers with one shot from a very long distance. It seems that my impression of them over the years has come from the fact that they look crooked in the bow and my character at the time probably had a low marksman skill...so I ignored them. But having taken another look, I think I'll go back and buy 100 and use them for a while. Not as damaging as other arrows, but not bad at all.

You can fletch your own, using Morrowind Crafting. The damage is low, but the arrow itself is only a relatively small portion of the overall damage anyway; the bow itself has a MUCH greater effect, and your character's strength can easily compensate for the slight difference. When you can kill a "cliffie" with a single arrow, regardless of whether it's corkbulb, chitin, ebony, or glass, why waste expensive arrows on vermin?

I have seen corkbulb bolts but I don't remember seeing the arrows in the vanilla game. I never bothered using them because most of my characters use chitin arrows with the summoned longbow until they have access to the awesome dwarven darts.
