Corpses

Post » Mon Dec 20, 2010 2:28 am

Hi all

I play Oblivion on the Xbox for a while now and i have noticed that some corpses of killed people dont seem to go away.. I also played Oblivion on the PC but there i didnt heve this problem.
Is there a known solution to these ethernal corpses? This only seems to be the case with humanoid corpses btw.
One of them is lying there sinds the beginning of the main quest when i got the paint horse from this prior dude (whos corps doesnt disapear)

Thanks in advance folks

Some named NPCs (eg Glathir) just never disappear with killed. The ones that do disappear should be gone if you leave the area for over three days (game time).

On the Xbox I don't think there is anything you can do about the bodies, except maybe drag them out of the way. On the PC you can open the console, click on the body, then enter the command "disable", the close the console. (tilde "~" key to toggle to console on and off)

What you describe is normal. Some corpses never disappear. Here is a list:

More importantly, perma corpses are perfectly safe non-respawning containers. :)

Well the body never dissapears while your playing. Which is for about a second after he dies, so I guess it belongs there.

Other essential NPCs are listed, because there is a check box in the CS that determines if an NPC's corpse will stay or go.
It is intentional, not that anyone would be able to see his corpse last eternally though.

Essential or not, if the NPC is marked as 'Quest object', his/her corpse will stay (forever).

I usually drag the corpses behind a bush/ outta sight. If there are no friendly NPCs near, a small AoE spell makes that job easier.

Don't NPCs loot dead bodies? Speaking of which, I've never understood why my house is never robbed if I don't lock it. It would only seem fair.

No, they only look like they do. They have an animation that makes it look like they're doing something to the body but they never actually take anything. There was a mod around that had them do that though. They would grab the most powerful weapon they could find on the bodies lying around. I forget what it's called now. IIRC, they ran into some unsolvable problems and the mod was scrapped. And your house is locked, the game does it automatically as you leave. You just don't have to go through those motions, that's all done for you.

Nope. NPC:s never loot. When you see someone that bows down to a corpse, i don't know. They don't loot at least.

This is exactly what I do to. Though I didn't know about the AOE spell. I will give that a try. I don't want dead bodies littering my beautiful landscape. If I run into the pirates down at the docks by accident, I dump their bodies over the side of the pier.

They don't loot them, but they will pick up weapons on the ground if attacked and unarmed. Just about a week ago, I attacked that high elf who goes on the Marie Elana (after killing the pirates) for being rude to me and he picked up a pirate cutlass on the ground... though by the time he equipped it I had killed him... found it in his inventory.

If it were possible I guess it would be an issue at the beginning of the game but as you play on I doubt that anyone would want/dare to break in to the home of "The hero of Kvatch", "Champion of Cyrodiil", "Master of the fighters guild or Mages guild" etc. :hehe: Depending on what you have accomplished.

Yeah, those pirates dead corpses are some of the most notorious for sticking around, I do that same and throw'em in the water. Be nice if those IC guards got around to cleaning up the town a little more often. AoE spells have the same effect on dead corpses as they do for book shelves. :D The corpses are just somewhat heavier.

Or store several full sets of armor and a couple longbows inside a clam. :P

(Just please promise never to knock Shadowmere out and stick loot up her, well, you know. )
