I have been messing with a bug related to corvega factory staircases and scaffolding. This is my first major indoor area so it might be the same issue that people have with cities etc.
I turned off every visual effect I could find, or set them really really low. I have gotten this issue even when almost everything was black and/or transparent.
Essentially there are specific locations in Corvega where looking at or near them causes massive drops in FPS.
One of these places had a glitched blue scaffolding beam that was continuously appearing/disappearing clipped into the wall. Looking at this glitch cut my fps in half, and it went away instantly after looking away from it.
I am looking at other potential settings I can tweak that might allow me to work around this massive FPS hit. So far I have tried:
Turning down or off every option related to shadows. 0 shadow map res
Tiled lighting
all main options and related variables set to 0 such as ambient occlusion
mesh options
Deferred lighting multithread on in console
deferred lighting turned down (whatever this is)
Turned off sound
etc etc.
The idea is just to find something that will prevent this massive fps drop, then decide whether it is worth turning it off. I am afraid though it is a core engine problem. It's possible it only occurs when level designers get sloppy and start clipping objects into each other.
Any clue what display related calcuation glitch or error is likely to result from objects clipped inside each other?
I have also heard this issue was in new vegas for some people. I didn't notice because my hardware was overkill for that game.
