Could deadric artifacts do "good"?

Post » Wed Jun 26, 2013 8:55 pm

I am a level 30 nord warrior and still need a lot more experience. I have decided that this nord will do what's right ( helping men and mer alike) and be unselfish.

I sometimes wonder about the daedra as they are mostly considered to have a bad or destructive influence and effect on tamriel. So i should stay away from them right? Or maybe you guys could help me see a side of some the daedra i never thought existed.

I know that some daedra are not wholly evil like meridia and azura but i still find it difficult to side with them. Please don't delve in to the theory that evil ( or that which is without good) doesnt exist. i don't care for that statement.

My question or topic is about founding out with i can actually help mankind and mer with deadric artifacts ( or atleast give the deadra some hell).

Of course.

Daedric artifacts are, lore-wise, powerful in their own right. Most don't have the kind of will that results in "using it's owner like a puppet." On one artifact (Umbra) did that, IIRC, and it's been destroyed since Oblivion.

Most of the negative associations with Daedric Artifacts are by what Daedra owns the artifact, and what kind of person is generally attracted to the artifact. The Scourge, for instance, is rarely found in a paladin's hands because... well, it's owned by the really bad Daedra Molag Bal, and getting it usually requires you to break some code of conduct.

The Princes don't care what you do with their artifacts, so long as they're being used in a way that's harmonious with their sphere. While some of artifacts more prone towards violence might be a tad questionable, they could be used to deliver someones own unique brand of justice/good/whatever you want to call it. They may be revoked if the Prince grows board with them, or otherwise sealed away with the intention that no one can get to them.

Some Daedra are quite malevolent and in some cases if you're RP'ing as a good guy, you may want to avoid doing what they want, like the case with Molag Bal, Namira, and Boethiah, in which cases the problem shouldn't come up because you have to do some pretty nasty things to get their artifacts in the first place.

In other cases, it's a case by case thing. Spellbreaker, for example, is simply a Dwemer artifact that Peryite has adopted as his artifact, something that I see nothing wrong with using. The Ebony Blade, on the other hand, is said in-universe to be a corrupter, something that a good guy would not want to power up or use. Feel free to remove it from Whiterun, since it gets Mephala to stop further corrupting the Jarl's son, however, and take and leave it someplace nobody will find it.

Azura's Star and Dawnbreaker are even less ambiguous. Even if you don't like how Azura supposedly drove the guy who corrupted the star mad, or Meridia for her connection with Umaril, it's still a very good thing to take and purify the Black Star, and to stop the necromancer in Meridia's Temple. And if they reward you for it, feel free to use them for pursuit of good.

How do you destroy a Daedric artefact?

And why? I missed Umbra. :(

The Mace of Molag Bal is well known as a tool for squishing Mages, and has been sought out by Heroes throughout History when a Mage needs to be vanquished.

You don't, Daedric artifacts are a part of the Daedric prince who owns them, you are simply borrowing the artifacts. They always return to the Daedra they are aligned with.

Depends on the artifact, the user, and the method of acquisition.

Ebony Mail- Somewhat grey. You have to forsake honor and kill someone that trusts you, but it makes you a bulwark and that can be used to defend those weaker than you.

Dawnbreaker- Good, kill a necromancer for a tool to banish undead, makes sense that a defender of the weak would want that.

Volendrung-grey-ish, only if you let Yamarz (spoilers) pay you to kill the giant. Good otherwise.

Azura's Star- pretty good, no matter what.

The Ogmah Infinium depends on who you sacrifice for the last bit.

The Saviors Hide- Grey, on one hand (spoilers) you killed sinding, but if you let him live he did kill a child

Mehrunes Razor- you(spoilers) do have to kill silus... but he isn't inherently good himself, so...

The Ebony Blade is evil, just is, so, no.

Mace of Molag Bal- You (spoilers) kill a holy man, to evil for a good person to acquire

Ring of Namira- see mace of Molag Bal

Skeleton Key- well....

Spell Breaker- good, you kill the sick to get a powerful shield

Sanguine Rose- would you're hero go party Hangover style? No? Move on.

Wabajack- Why?

Skull of Corruption- You do kill that guy....
