Could I enjoy a new Pokemon game?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 7:45 am

Recently I played through Pokemon Red for the Game Boy for the sake of nostalgia and to see if I missed out on things when I was young (and I did) but the basic game only lasted about a half of a week and I was able to catch all the legendaries. I bought Silver, Emerald, and Diamond versions when they were new but with every generation they seem to get worse (except I like generation one and two about equally) I just about lost all hope with generation three being awful, and worst of all you couldn't catch 'em all :cryvaultboy: Then in generation four I got some hope back because I could trade Pokemon from generation three, as well as one or two new neat little features, still not as enjoyable as the first two generations. I know there are some Pokemon fans on these forums that could answer some of my questions *COUGH*Peace Bullet*COUGH* so hear it goes:

1.What generation did you start playing Pokemon?

2.What was your favorite generation?

3.Which would you recommend A. Black & White B. Heart Gold & Soul Silver C. None.

4.If A or B were selected in the previous question what features does that game bring? What does it get rid of?

5.Can somebody my age enjoy a Pokemon game?

6.Can I catch 'em all?

Thanks in Advance. I love you. :tops:

My generation was pokemon. I was a kid when pokemon happened. So first generation for me.

My favourite is always first with red/blue/yellow because it's nostalgia for me. I remember having the first copy in my school, and at recess everyone was crowded around me watching me play.

I'd recommend fire red or leaf green because they are remakes of the ones I liked. I don't like the new ones because they look really awkward

New graphics, and I think it adds a couple extra things, Not entirely sure. It just brings alot of the new features and graphics to the older games.

I'm 22 and every year or two I play one of them for nostalgia sake.

I actually own Fire Red but didn't like some of the changes made to it. I also grew up playing the first generation of Pokemon in the school yard so I understand everything you're saying, maybe new Pokemon games just aren't mean't for veteran fans of the series.

If you don't like the new pokemon from the previous generations, don't bother with Black & White. They're the worst designed yet, I think they're running out of ideas.

Really not that fond of Black and White. The UI got just trashed in it due to the C-Gear. The controls in HG/SS are perfect, though.

There's actually a lot of neat stuff in BW, but I just hate C-Gear soooo much for ruining how perfect the menus and stuff were in HG/SS. That and the new leveling system just makes me feel like I don't make any progress.

I agree. Same is happening to Zelda for me. My generation was when Zelda picked a definitive path [deciding over the top view for the entire game was best] and then moving on. After Majora's Mask, Zelda died to me. I played Twilight Princess, but I didn't enjoy it much.

It's sad to say that. An unfortunate side effect of being old school gamers like us. Is we can't enjoy the newer instalments coming out for games. But, I don't mind. I am totally happy with playing all the good old classics from the SNES, N64, etc.

I really loved Generation 1, I liked Generation 2, but it went all downhill from there. I′d rather re-play one of the oldest games than play the Black & White series.

But that′s just me, if you like the copy/paste feeling of the newer generations and the lack of imagination (yes I′m being biased since it comes to personal opinion but that is my opinion of the newer generations) then I suppose it wouldn′t be too bad.

Because Heart Gold and Soul Silver are just remakes with new features would it be worth it?

Basically the same deal as Fire Red and Leaf Green. Just takes the newer stuff to make the older look nicer.

Is there any particular reason why they never remade Crystal?

Probably no need to I guess? I mean, they didn't upgrade Pokemon Yellow [well technically they did, since Leaf Green was the third installment of first generation pokemon. But it kind of got converted here to Yellow. But Leaf Green doesn't contain Ash's Pikachu that follows him, and it contains all the pokemon from Pokemon blue]

Wasn't Crystal just a slight remake of Gold and Silver?

They never did a remake for Emerald either.

They also didn't remake Ruby and Sapphire, why would they remake Emerald? I don't think they should remake generation 3 at all, ever.

Heartgold and Soul Silver included the Suicune story elements from Crystal, so they pretty much did remake Crystal.

Blue was the updated version of the first gen, that's why the remakes are FireRed and LeafGreen. I dunno why they decided to release them originally in America as Red and Blue, I guess they thought Blastoise was cooler than Venusaur.

Does it make changes like Fire Red and Leaf Green did? Like One, Two, and Three Islands or Moltres not being on Victory Road.

Yes. There's a new safari zone, a whole battle frontier, and those elements from Crystal. I thought HG/SS were the best Pokemon games I've ever played.

If you actually want to discuss the Japanese release versions, i'm out.

Last thing I need is to try and think about another Final Fantasy catastrophe ><

Various fixes in the game include a graphics and sound upgrade, as well as the removal of several known glitches that had been found in the original pair. Like its paired predecessors, it was never truly released outside of Japan, however, while Red and Green provided the wild Pokémon and version-exclusive lists for the rest of the world's Red and Blue, Blue provided the graphics, game engine, and script for translation.

So basically, Red and Blue in the rest of the world is the same as Japanese Red and Green. They just used the game engine/graphics from Japanese Blue. The original sprites were really really ugly.

First of all my favorite version was yellow, and my second was crystal. You should play them both if you haven't yet! I got gold version and blue version, and they were fun, but I didn't like the, as much as yellow or crystal.

To answer your questions-

1. The first generation (aka yellow version)
2. The first generation was my favorite. After the second generation, pokemon just got stupid. The third one was ok... but that's when it went downhill.
3. D. Yellow and Crystal!
4. Never played the games sorry!
5. Yes I actually know a lot of college age kids and advlts that play pokemon and still love it!
6. If Ash doesn't do it before you!

I starting playing with generation 2 (Silver & Gold version), but I still like generation 1 (Fire Red & Leaf Green) the most. Though currently I'm playing Ruby version, simply because I missed Ruby & Saphire, so I thought I'd catch up on that. As for someone enjoying Pokemon at your age, well I'm 18 and I still love it, so I'm sure you can too!

I played red/blue/yellow, and later silver/gold. Those were awesome. If I had a DS I'd probably get the silver/gold remake.

I played Pokemon Black last week for around 3 hours. I hated it. Reasons include:

1) Literally EVERY pokemon I encountered I had no idea who it was.
2) Waaaay too many talking, at least during the first hour or so.

The first 151 pokemon or so FTW!

Although I still had enjoyed Pokemon Ruby very much, but in Pokemon Black I couldn't recognise not even ONE pokemon.

There were some aspects to the gameplay which I enjoyed though, but I won't be playing the game anymore.

For the record these are the pokemon games I played and beat throughout my childhood/teenage years:

Pokemon Red
Pokemon Yellow (I never beat this, never liked Pikachu)
Pokemon Silver and Pokemon Crystal
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire (and Leaf Green, but I never finished it)

My childhood consisted of A LOT of Pokemon and Morrowind. :P
