I was just thinking...could've Fallout: New Vegas been different? It was developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda Softworks (obviously). If Bethesda both developed and published it, could it have been a slightly different game? To me FONV did not feel like a "real" Fallout. Don't ask me why, because they look and feel the same (kind of). This is kind of a hard topic to explain but I did my best to explain it to you the best I could. Just give me your opinion about this and why.

New Vegas was developed by people that worked on the original Fallouts. Fallout New Vegas is a Fallout game, it has that "real Fallout feel." Fallout 3 on the other hand does not.

New Vegas is closer to a true sequel to Fallout 2 than Fallout 3, which is only a sequel in name only. Fallout 3 is full of plot holes and piss poor writing and isn't much of an RPG, its so linear. Good vs Evil. Fallout 3 takes the main elements from Fallout and Fallout 2 and sticks them on the East Coast with no real thought, hence (some of ) the plot holes.

I predict that at least 3 people say that fallout 3 is not the real fallout and new Vegas is closer to the originals.

Sure it would've been different, it would've been even more like Fallout 3 and without the improvements New Vegas did. And I would've saved some money.

I dunno. To me, coming from the series beginning, New Vegas felt more like Fallout than any title since Fallout 2.

If Bethesda had developed New Vegas, the Mojave would have been a theme park environment like the Capital. It would be filled with very uninteresting people, the NCR would be the good guys who you would be forced to help, the Legion would and House would have been bad guys who are somehow working together to destroy civilization. None of the companions or any of the other characters would have any back story. The Brotherhood of Steel would have been a huge underground power that could single handedly destroy the Legion if you convince them to help the NCR. This of course would happen because it would be scripted to happen. Mr. House would actually be revealed to be built into a huge robot, the Legion would end up actually being an offshoot of the Enclave and you would have a Tenpenny Tower scenario concerning the Powder Gangers and Fiends joining the Great Khans.

If Bethesda had made New Vegas, lore would have been ripped apart even more then it had been and there would have been no hope for this amazing series. New Vegas is also much more closely related to the originals then Fallout 3.(Curse you Wonderwombat!!!!!)

Have you played the other games besides the newer two (Fallout 3 and New Vegas)?

The others all have NV's feel (although have a less developed civilization and were made in the late 1990s-early 2000s).

anyway if Bethesda made New Vegas it would have been just as bad as Fallout 3, poorly written, forgettable characters, bad theme park world, and easy as boiling water.

Also, the companions would have been karma-based, and none of the ones are evil, so Bethesda would probably turn Cassidy into a raider and Raul into a psychopath.

I would've been a lot more annoyed if it were after I played the originals.

It was back when i was just reading about them on the Vault.
