I could just cry

I was having some wonky problems with my game so I uninstalled Skyrim, creation kit & nmm.

I thought I dragged a copy of my data folder to the desktop to preserve my mod in progress, but after reinstalling Skyrim that folder was missing. I must have sent it to the trash and then emptied it along with other files. I do have backups of my mod, but I lost all my textures, nifs and scripts. I'm hoping the Geek Squad might be able to retrieve them but I'm pretty certain they are gone.

There are a lot of web information, most of it conflicting, about uninstalling and reinstalling Skyrim, but nothing about preserving a mod in progress while doing so. I am just sick.

Reinstalling and revalidating skyrim dont ever touch any files except the ones that were originally installed. After uninstallation mod files would still remain thats why theres nothing to say about it. If they files really are gone its because you deleted them yourself.

http://www.howtogeek.com/169344/how-to-recover-a-deleted-file-the-ultimate-guide/It may still be possible to get it back on a platter drive but every single write to the disk slims your chances of recovering the file. Do some research on deleted file recovery and AVOID anything that causes a write to your hard drive.

Never used it myself but I've used other tools by the same people - Recuva (by Piriform) might be able to get your files back from the void.

Also keep MANY backups of your mod. I back up Falskaar periodically in an entirely different area of my hard drive, as well as on an entirely different hard drive, and occasionally a smaller more critical portion of it on a flash drive. That's 3 sources outside of data/ to go back on if something explodes. Do the same! Can't hurt.
