I could not distinguish players from NPCs ? Very much

Post » Tue Mar 11, 2014 12:56 am

Hi,

I hope there will be the characters names above the players and the names of NPCs !

I don't feel like i'm online with players...

I would rather see nameplates above npcs. It's annoying having to mouse over everyone in a small crowd to find which one is a vendor. I wouldn't want nameplates over players because it would somewhat spoil pvp to see a nameplate hovering over a bush or behind a tree. :D

Of course ! But it would be very cool in PvE... Really... And in PvP we could only see allies nameplates :) ?

Optional nameplates for both NPC and own fraction players would be good. It would be hard to find a NPC with all the players around. Also without and nameplates for players, I can't tell even I have my friends questing in the same area, which makes it counterproductive to a better community.

I have to agree there, though of course it's what I'm use to with other MMOs. I expect when I see other players I'll see their nameplates, and like everyone else it seems, I ran up to players a few times to see if they were the quest giver\objective I was looking for. Though I guess I understand why they didn't, I guess it's more immersive to not have nameplates all over the screen.

Nameplates over NPCs would be good enough I reckon.

you can switch on overhead health bars for npcs/players independently in the options, which helps to separate things in crowded areas (towns)

All those characters that jump around are .. well I cannot call em players but someone else than the game is controlling them.

In the next beta I'm going to stand at the crafting place and give people quests to bring me their epix.

First beta weekend I played I really could not see the difference between NPC and player. But after the 3rd weekend I had no problems at all.

Just make it an option, so people who dun want them can turn them off and people who likes them, can have it toggle on.

I agree as an option anyone can turn on and off yes, np with nameplates etc, as long as they can be turned on/off at will.

One of the questions in the survey you should have received in your email after the last beta weekend specifically addresses this. Something along the lines of "I had trouble distinguishing players from NPCs." I think I chose that I strongly agreed. Might be something I have to get used to, but at this point I'm so programmed to look for nameplates that I subconsciously ignore anything that doesn't have it.

This :)

99,9% of the time I'm more than fine with not being able to tell the difference at first glance.

And once you've got used to the game it's really not that hard to distinguish them, the behavior gives them away very easily.

But having experienced the 0.1% of the time when it's not fine and knowing how it is usually in MMOs I certainly can see the need to add an option for nametags or something similar.

Im perfeclty fine with how the game is atm. If we get some nameplates, I would prefer them to be completelly optional.

OP I had this problem too my first beta weekend. By my third beta weekend though it was no longer an issue for me. Somehow the more I played the easier it became for me to discern between players and NPCs.

..... Do people even look in the options menu anymore? The feature is already in the game, just toggle nameplates on if you want.

Sure, I don't want it, but I'm fine with having it as an option.
