Could somebody remake Fallout 2 with the GECK?

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 10:03 pm

I was just wondering, could somebody remake Fallout or Fallout 2 but using the FO3/NV engine? I know it wouldn't be the same as the originals (no point and click and turn based combat) but I think it would be really cool. I figured they could just use the same voice overs and then use text for everything else if they couldn't get good voice overs for all the dialog that was in those games. I actually think it would be really good if it was done right.

This would be awsome! I never really got to play the orignal 2, though I did buy them after playing fallout 3 they don't work on my pc, but would love to give them a try. though the task of making the game using GECK would be HUGE! new vegas has taken a large team (not sure how many) well over a year working full time to make, so would probably take a single fan a lifetime to put together!

I wonder if anybody ever thought of it. Only thing though, would somebody be able to make a seperate game with the GECK? Or does it have to be apart of NV or FO3?

You could in theory make a separate game. For FO3 someone made a mod where you player from the Enclave's perspective. I'm quite sure similar could be done for FONV but the added task of building a new world space might be tough.

That'd be a very daunting task.

Note the lack of voice acting almost everywhere. We'd need some talented... talent. Or, you'd be reading a lot while an NPC stares at you...

That said, licensing may be an issue.

I definitely support the idea, however! I'd love to waste Gizmo in 3D!

Yup, total conversions they're called and as sgt.gotee states they're very daunting to do (in fact, they rarely get finished),

Yeah, it sure requires having some people work on such project. On the other hand, there's already lots of stuff like models or textures that can be recycles from existing games, especially New Vegas with it desertish, western setting, NCR, western supermutants including nightkin.... etc,

I'm more than sure somebody DID think of it. But there's just not much of point to share such a thought. I doubt Beth would be interested, and making a Total Conversion, even with all the recyclable stuff we already have... is just.. too much? (maybe someone will take it as challenge ;p) And full voice-acting is the smallest problem, I'd say it's not even necessary for such a project.

Bethesda is fine with nearly anything so long as you don't use content from other games (Make it yourself and you are good), and since Bethesda owns the Fallout TM, its not really an issue.

I guess it's possible - but it's gonna take as much time as making an entirely new game that takes place somewhere else. You'll have to remodel most of the content -- the only things you have are the engine and some models from FO3, and perhaps the text from FO2 (if you're allowed to use content from a game not made by Bethesda)

If I had the talent needed to do this, I'd rather use it on something new --- a great part of a game is its novelty -- and I'd get more credit for making something from scratch than just copying (/remaking) an old game.

Yes, there are already a hundred threads here discussing the same thing. :P

The conclusion has always been that it's not feasible.

I've made myself exterior worldspaces for Cliffworm's v31&15 using the worldspaces provided by the GTS F1&2 locations mod. I'm guessing the easier to remake the originals is to build each area in its separate (small) worldspace using fast travel to go between them and put quests in each location.

Since Fallout and Fallout 2 don't have seamless landscapes it would be difficult to recreate them with FO3/FONV. There is an option to make interior cells that look like exteriors but there's still the problem of traveling between locations.

Someone trying to recreate these games would face a lot of similar problems and while some cleverness may let you work around them to some extent I think the end result would still be a bit awkward.

Bethesda is fine with nearly anything so long as you don't use content from other games (Make it yourself and you are good), and since Bethesda owns the Fallout TM, its not really an issue.

Yep, since it's illegal to take content from one game and put it in another any mods caught doing this are immediately blacklisted.

Maybe Bethesda should just remake Fallout 1 & 2. Would probably turn out better than a mod job.

They would have to change a few things but overall they could pull it off.

I like FO1&2 just the way they are. No need for a remake and as stated above: difficult to recreate I reckon.

Well it would be possible to make some parts of FO1 and FO2 with geck and fit them somehow to FO3 and NV. Maybe a small questline in Shady sands?
Do a raid mission to vault 13 with NCR or BoS. Visit boneyard and so on.
Making whole FO2 would be a huge project and need alot of people to do it.

What I want to see from future fallout games is that they wont go forward in time. I would like to see in fallout 4 the time before fallout 1
Rise of the supermutants or something.
