Could the Beta Client patched to the Release Client?

Post » Fri Mar 14, 2014 2:24 am

The Beta client is such an enormous download and I am a bit nervous that we have to download the whole client again before release... Any information about it? Could it be possible that we just have to patch the beta client to get the Release candidate?

I'm in beta and have been the past two, i think it was yesterday or the day before they had a pretty big 700mb patch. ( The past two betas there have only been small 20-50mb) I think just before the 5 day early access starts they will drop a pretty big patch to update the current game and client, i don't think we will have to re-download a new client they should just update the one everyone already has installed.

It would be good for official confirmation of this, I suspect we'll hear about it soon, maybe after the final beta.

durn this game, everytime i open up the client it has a download my HD space will be 0 by the time this thing launches.

As far as i know they have said you will have to update your beta client, to the released client. I would think that option will be available mid next week or week after. However; later on maybe during maintanence time or while you sleep after the 4th release, delete all of the ESO files from your HD and do a fresh install. Just some advice because some patches may conflict with some of the stuff left behind from beta and cause problems.

I remember reading that all you have to do is patch the existing client. Can't remember where I read that though.

I don't see any reason why we would have to do otherwise.

Yes. Players do not have to reinstall the game client when The Elder Scrolls Online officially launches. They simply need to patch the client using the ESO launcher.

Official word from the support page.

That sounds great!! Thanks for the information!

I just ordered a new computer, does anybody know if it is possible to put the client on an external hard disk drive and than to put it on the new computer?

In theory, you could start the client install on the new computer, stop it, copy over the install from the old computer and then resume the install and it would assume the process is done.

However I've not tried it.

I wonder if this is also true for those who have bought the game from retail sellers, and not directly from the official site.

Should be. As I understand it, once you've added the KEY to your account you can download the and install the client regardless of physical media.

OK, good to know. I bought mine from Green Man Gaming and I could've sworn I read somewhere that their own client would be required to play, but I can't find it anymore so you must be correct. :)

I too used Green Man Gaming, however I ignored their instructions and just activated the key in my ESO account page. No issues.

I did too. Now I just need my Imperial access code and I'll be good to go. *twiddles thumbs* :P

If you pre-ordered the Imperial addition, there won't be another code to enter as I under stand it. Your existing account will just be automatically updated once they have the Imperial unlocks.

They have confirmed on the beta forums that the beta client will be patched up to release and a full re-download of the client is not necessary.

Hey, http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/profile/betbill2b14_ESO?. Once players pre-purchase ESO through The Elder Scrolls Online Store, they do not need to redeem any codes as our system will automatically update their accounts. Since you've received your confirmation email, you're all set for launch!

We can also confirm that players will be able to patch their beta client before early access, so they won't need to reinstall the whole game. Players will be able to patch the beta client for early access and release from the launcher.
