could the engine support dx11 please

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:43 am

now - when i say support i dont mean that bethesda should bother making height-maps and everything. just have the engine compatible and modders will work with the hieghtmaps. i am assuming tessellation itself doesn't need much effort to work with. it cant be hard to throw in the engine can it?

i dont have a dx11 card, but if skyrim has dx11 i will probably get some money together for one. dx11 will make the game look better on new pcs and whatever the future holds for us. this means more people will buy the game after the first months.

nice post here

If it came to a contest between gameplay and graphics, I'd agree with you - but it doesn't, game design and graphics programming are completely separate areas, one does not detract from the other. If we can have highly detailed environments, fog that doesn't clip horribly with everything, and decent damage effects, with no downside - why wouldn't you want that?

I don't mind if it is DX11 however suspect it won't be, won't they be making it mostly compatible with the 360? Is the extra effort making it DX11 going to make more money for them?

it would make the graphics further ahead. it will be a next gen game rather than a current (or previous imo) gen game. therefore it will have a better long term fanbase/audience.

also- people buy crysis because IT HAZ UBER GRAFIX. why not try that with skyrim if the option is there and easy to do?

it would be nice to have it, even if my cards don't supports DX11.

even DICE added DX11 to BFBC2 even though the first bad company was a console exclusive.

1: having dx11 included in the ENGINE would be great then we could just mod in everything, idk why they wouldnt do this as it would future proof the engine so they wouldnt have to add it in later.

2: crysis was more than uber grafix, it was a fun sandbox shooter not a generic corridor pos.

3: graphics, physics, effects add to immersion and gameplay.

4: the witcher 2 is doing it on a much smaller budget.

It would be dissappointing if it didn't. Let me think: 2011. End of 2011. No, no way, it must have Dx11.

Bonuses for who? That's what I thought. Don't be selfish to console players.

There are no downsides to console players, they just don't get the nicer graphics. You wouldn't say that 360 games shouldn't look better than an original Xbox because that's all you had, right?

Nah, I'll get a haircut instead. Thanks, though.

I still don't see what the problem is. I have an i7 2600k , 6 gigs of ram and an Nvidia 580, but this doesn't mean I deserve better than my fellow bros on the consoles.

It's not about "deserving" it's about giving everybody what they need and are prepared for. The consoles have their advantages too: bigger screen, easier controls. The PC has better processing power, why would you cut things down to equalize them as long as they can't be equal. Everyone is free to pick the hardware they want to play on, and as I read here in the forums a lot of people play the game on both consoles and PC.

You can get big screen computer monitors as well and some find the mouse and keyboard combo mo' betta, yo. It's not about the hardware; it's the software being fair & equal for each system. And bros being awesome to each other, Rufus. Not a gimped down PC > Console version and certainly not an optimized console port for the PC.

Releasing on 11/11/11 after announcing it 11 months before on december 11th and not supporting dx11 would be ridiculous.

If modders can make Morrowind from 2002 look like http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/3811/birdvvardenfell.jpg, imagine what people may be able to pull off for Skyrim with DX11 support.

Still, I don't know how hard it is to make the thing DX11 compatible. If it takes a lot of time it's a waste of money if they're not actually going to do anything with it.
