now - when i say support i dont mean that bethesda should bother making height-maps and everything. just have the engine compatible and modders will work with the hieghtmaps. i am assuming tessellation itself doesn't need much effort to work with. it cant be hard to throw in the engine can it?
i dont have a dx11 card, but if skyrim has dx11 i will probably get some money together for one. dx11 will make the game look better on new pcs and whatever the future holds for us. this means more people will buy the game after the first months.

If it came to a contest between gameplay and graphics, I'd agree with you - but it doesn't, game design and graphics programming are completely separate areas, one does not detract from the other. If we can have highly detailed environments, fog that doesn't clip horribly with everything, and decent damage effects, with no downside - why wouldn't you want that?
