Could this be the last fallout game?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 8:36 am

Umm...have you actually played the last two Fallout games?

Because everything you just said actually describes them perfectly.

And there were certainly limits on what you could do in the original Interplay Fallout games, contrary to what you seem to think. They certainly weren't some open-world sandbox paradise by any means.

Bethesda "dumbing down" their games for the filthy casuals?

Yawn.

That false chestnut was old back way in 2006. Move along.

As someone who purchased the original Interplay/Black Isle Fallout titles either on launch day or within a week or so thereafter...trust me, I'm not.

And as someone who is also a Fallout 3 and New Vegas fan, even less so.

If they don't want to make money from a winning franchise, It'll be the last. I doubt Beth would be dumb like Bioware, in not making Kotor 3.

I mean, mathematically this isn't even Fallout 4. It's like Fallout 6 or 7. I don't trust Bethesda math.

The only thing that would make me think it could be the last game in the franchise in an intended fashion (rather than ending because of Bethesda shuttering, the game flopping, or the end of the world) is that it shows parts of the Old World. From a design philosophy, that's something I wouldn't show outside of maybe an announcement trailer unless I intended to wrap up the series.

Not that I think the fact we're seeing the Old World means the series is about to end. Bethesda and I don't always see eye to eye in terms of game design, story, and thematic developments.

Yeah definitly won't be the last we see of Fallout. I doubt we'll see one outside of the US as some have suggested. Lots of things suggest Europe is MUCH worse than the US and it doesn't follow the theme of this still 50's style Americana in every game.

Hey, you never know - there could be a Fallout 4 Backward Compatibility Edition released for the XBox Two and PS5, in eight years!

Sure, it could be the last game--although the series of events that would have to take place in order for it to be the last Fallout game are highly unlikely to transpire. You're talking major incompetence and/or financial cataclysm for the publisher who owns the rights to the property.

I'd be more worried that it could be the last single player Fallout game from Bethesda. I think the jury is still out on how "successful" ESO has been but the fact that it did not survive 6 months as a sub only game proves it had less success than planned. Still the lure of steady monthly revenue is something every cooperation wants and in gaming an MMO (or hybrid like Destiny) is the way to achieve that goal.

I certainly hope that's not the case, but Bethesda is one of the few companies left that actually make GOOD single player only games.

not as long as todd howard is making the games for bethesda, i have zero concern any BGS game will be an MMO in my lifetime, there could be some type of spinoff but even with ESO thats still not a BGS game and hasn't replaced ES, single player games aren't gonna be replaced

The last one set on the east coast, probably, the last Fallout game period not likely, unless WW3 breaks out, which is becoming more and more of a reality.

Pretty much this.

Even if something unbelievable happened and Bethesda could no longer develop games in the franchise someone would buy the IP for an inordinate fee and continue the series that way.

To put it into perspective in 2003 - 2004 Trojka, Bioware and Bethesda all tried to buy the Fallout IP before the series had ever garnered any commercial success.Imagine the frenzy that would ensue if the IP was for sale today.

True, and also with the Fallout MMO rights having fully reverted back to Zenimax, there's likely no way they'd even consider throwing in a tacked-on multiplayer element now, which could potentially dilute the potency of a full, proper MMO down the road.

I personally enjoy the Mass Effect series and there's no denying that Fallout is growing increasingly inspired by Bioware's work. But having said that, I could never be confident and satisfied in a Fallout game embossed with the logo of EA.

Ehh, Bioware's last enjoyable game for me was DA1, though I will admit they made significant improvements on ME's gameplay from 1 to 3.

As much as I rag on games like Witcher 3 and NV for false choice situations, and on the types of companions with quests, like those in NV, for being totally unrealistic and mentally insulting, Bioware has always managed to somehow take it to 11 in their games. I honestly can't play their games for more then an hour or two without feeling like they think I am a complete moron, who needs to be constantly force fed Hollywood stereotypes, and inconsistent narrative themes, in order to be entertained.

I would honestly rather have Fallout 5 be designed by some eastern European dev, that no one has ever heard of before, in the gameplay style of PoE, then let Bioware make a Fallout game, because I honestly feel like I could enjoy that more then a Bioware made Fallout game.

EA would be better than Konami at this point. Unless you're a huge fan of pachinko...

lolno

It'll probably just come out eight years down the road. Which is kind of scary, if you think about it.

Probably best to think it's dead after this because it'll be pointless waiting for the next game. Make the most out of this because we won't be getting another until 2023. Bethesda are like that.
