It just seems to unfathomable to me, for a few reasons. The first reason being, that if the kid is to young to really remind you "Hey, I'm in the car", then the child is also to young to get his or herself in and out of the car, which means YOU PUT THE CHILD IN THE CAR!!! That is a pain in the butt! It's not exactly an easy task with some of the new-fangled, super-safe child safety seats they have nowadays. If you put your child in that thing, I just don't see how your mind could possibly let you forget the torture of that by the time you get where you're going, which means you'll remember to take them out. The next reason makes it even more illogical: What kid above the age of 2 isn't going to start screaming at the top of their freaking lungs the moment you get out of the car and start walking away? I mean, maybe it's just my kids, but once that car stops, they wake up immediately if they were sleeping. I guess maybe if they don't they'd die in their sleep, but if they wake up, they would get out by themselves.
I don't know, it just seems to me that the only way a parent could "forget" is if they do it intentionally, or a mind-altering substance is involved, because I don't care how stressed, how on "auto-pilot" you are, you don't just forget the creature that yells and screams at you 24/7. It's impossible. I don't even get away from it in my dreams half the time ><
So, what about you forum, what is your opinion on this subject? Could you forget your child in the car? Do you think parents who have are lying when they say that they just "forgot"?
