A couple of gripes about a GREAT game!

SO, big fan of Bethesda and the Elder Scrolls series in specific (although I loved Fallout in all of it's incarnations too).

My big question is, why do you spend all that time developing the look of your character, the shape of his/her eyes, mouth, coloring, etc. if you can never see your character. I loved in Oblivion, how when you went to your inventory, you would see a large character portrait in armor, with weapons, etc. I could try on different armor and see how cool i looked. Now i have to settle for a third person view, from afar, either by holding down the "F" key toggling 1st person and 3rd person, or wait til the game goes idle (after 4 minutes or so) to get the 360 degree view. I can look at everything in my inventory in 3d glory, except for myself in that stuff! Seems like a waste of time to go through the process of making a character you think looks cool and that you can connect with, to never be able to see yourself. Might as well just skip that whole process.

Another gripe - i hate that the armor and weapons that you can find/wear correspond to your level. I should be able to find glass armor in the first dungeon/cave i encounter, but maybe not be able to use it until i reach a certain level. I'm level 18 and i'm only now starting to see dwarven/glass weapons and armor in game.

Rings - I've got 10 fingers, how come I can only wear one ring at a time?

You can find glass/ebony armor early in the game if you know where to look and can defeat a deathlord

1. Yeah, little disappointing to me as well.

2. Level requirements in TES? You are joking right? Seeing glass weapons at 18? I am 41 and haven't seen daedric, and barely got a full set of ebony armor.

3. Balance reasons. Imagine 10 rings of fortify light/heavy armor for 10 points... why bother at that point. Also i read something about the magic on rings can interfear with other rings so you have to limit the ring usage to ensure the ring actually works properly.

I think the ring limit is to avoid overpowered characters. I can easly see how a character with ten enchanted rings would become more powerful than Akatosh himself.

Anyways, if you're on PC there's already a mod to allow you wear more rings.

There is no level requirements, you can find high end armor at lower levels.

My complaints are...

1. Lack of spell creation.

2. Lack of spell types and underpowered and underdeveloped magic trees.

3. The ash piles stay in one place forever they never disappear. Bethesda can remove ectoplasm and the ice wraith liquid but not advlt piles. They should remove ash piles out of the game altogether.

4. The magic resistance bug since patch 1.2.

5. We should have more weapons, armor, and clothing items.

6. The backwards flying dragons since patch 1.2.

7. I should be able to wear more than one ring.

I forgot - how come treasure is only in chests or strongboxes? I've come to almost completely ignore sacks and barrels and boxes cause they have nothing but carrots and cabbage.

Regarding yoru big question, what is the difference? I can look at my character in third person, anytime I want (which i do often), upclose, from afar, rotate around him. You need to see him in a menu format to be satisfied? I would agree with your point if there was no third person view. I play on xbox so looking at your character in third person is really easy and has 360 view. Does the PC version not have 360 view?

Regarding your other gripe the whole being able to find something and not be able to use it? Because the helmet is made of glass instead of steel you are unable to put it on your head? Totally illogical.

Regarding the rings - being able to wear 10 rings would imbalance the game as enchanting is already powerful. FYI - you only have 8 fingers.

I still check them for salt piles for alchemy.

I mean I think there should he a chance we find something more rare in the chest like gems and jewelry, maybe an enchanted piece of jewelry.

so maybe not 10 rings, but one??? It's feast or famine. They could also build in rules that certain kinds of rings cancel out each other to address balance.

I can also see my character in 3rd person, but you can't get a close up view (at least as far as I know in PC). I'd like to be able to see myself, in my armor and weapons drawn. Oblivion had an excellent UI that included the character portrait, so when you found a new helmet, you could check it out. Skyrim, i gotta equip it, leave the inventory, go to third person view, hold the F toggle, and mouse around to see what it looks like from 10 feet away. It's a pain.

I'd also like to see more variety in the weapons. All steel swords should not look the same. A skyforged Steel War Axe should look different than a lesser quality forged Steel axe. As I craft a better axe, fine, superior, etc., it should look different than the standard found axe. Can you find Fine and Superior weapons or can you only craft existing ones?

As far as boxes, barrels and sacks, I liked that Oblivion made you check everything for the potential loot. Now I know the good stuff is only in chests and strongboxes. Kinda ruins the exploratory feel that I liked about Oblivion. I'm not big into Alchemy and food is just about useless when all you gotta do is wait or drink some healing potion or use healing magic to recover health.
