Yeah, I had the 281 bug with DLC_MOBS.esp, so I grabbed 282 a bit ago.

ED: its probably something stupid.

Post your current load order, please. I also recommend installing OSR and Fast Exit v2, if you do not already have it. True, the save might be bad. Can you rollback another save or two, to see if you can get it working. If you need to advance through the quest again, look it up on the UESP wiki pages. The relevant set quest stage commands should be listed on the quest's page.

Thanks for helping me this long. its been CTDing since the start though, so eh. The only way to know would be a fresh character. Anyway, here is the new load order. It might be a prob with however I'm doing archive invalidation though. I kinda didn't do anything, just installed QTP3/EVE via BAIN and let Bash do whatever it does.

If you are using OBMM, make sure BSA redirection is set in Archive Invalidation, but I think it is set to that for default. Therefore, you probably do not need to do anything more for archive invalidation.

http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/stabilization/outdatedmods

Remove for the sake of stability:

47 OOO-WaterFish.esp [Version 1.34]
++ Mart's Monster Mod - More Passive Wildlife.esp [Version 3.7b3p3]

You may want to test on a new game. Try the this first run guide: http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/runoblivion/firstrun.

Almost done...Remove Exnem Runeskulls and the FCOM plugin for it. That is what MMM's Diverse Runeskulls add-on is for. Rebuild your bashed patch ad re-run TES4LODGen after making that change. Then run through the First Run Guide again. What is Modem's City life BP Compat? You do not have Beautiful People installed. Remove MMM Resized Races. You are using COBL Races Balanced, which already changes the sizes of the vanilla races. Outside of those things, the rest is going to depend on how good your system is.

Yeah, rolled back a save and he now bathes properly. Put the Rose of Sithis right through his heart. Now I'm back down to the usual, odd CTDs that occur when loading new content. Not really sure what to do about those at this stage. Maybe that's my save too :\

This reply won't be about load order etc. Just information that helped me greatly with the crash when loading new areas or making transitions. Possibly way off target but you never know.

I have a 500gig Seagate hard drive and recently found out there was a problem when large amounts of data were being read and transferred. I was able to find a firmware update for the drive and since then I have not crashed once, playing for 3 to 4 hours at a time. Game also runs much smoother now. Don't know if this could be of any help but sure worked for my situation.

The HDD is important sometimes too. I forget that all of the time. I created a http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/install/pcspecs page, and that is definitely worth mentioning there and on the Stabilization page directly, thanks.

I amended the list here: http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/stabilization.

Thanks for those ideas. I'll look and see if my WD640 has any such updates. Anyway, I have been playing since that last post and have not crashed, so I think most of the issues have been solved. This may be as good as it gets, and that isn't so bad. Anyway, thanks for the specs pages. I hate how poorly optimized Oblivion is. My modded(better graphics than vanilla max settings!!) Crysis / Crysis Warhead installations run at higher fps than Oblivion with QTP3/FCOM. Even as big as these mods are, Ob should not be dragged down farther than modded Crysis, and Oblivion doesn't even have to deal with AA, which I do have set on Crysis / Crysis Warhead. Truly a sad state of affairs :\.

Oblivion should perform more poorly than Crisis if Crisis is designed to take advantage of multiple cores.

Not beyond 2, it only performs physics on the second core though IIRC. With a hyperthreaded, 3,2 GHZ quad core though, nothing should be able to bring that to its knees :\.

I do not know anything about Crisis' game engine, just saying... If you are just talking about QTP3 + FCOM, of course that setup should not be choking over it. After PyFFI-optimizing QTP3, it ran at the same specs as vanilla with my 3.0 GHz E8400 and HD4870 1GB.

Can I still run PyFFI on QTP3? Or have I installed too many things on top of it to do so safely? I know it is way too late for me to do so to the vanilla / unofficial patch meshes without breaking a lot of things :\

You can still run PyFFI on QTP3. In fact, the latest versions of PyFFI are good enough that you can probably just right-click on a folder to optimize its contents. If you had BAIN this would be a really simple situation to remedy. :P

I do have BAIN :D. I actually followed your guide when making my install, so my FCOM packages are arranged to your specs. I guess I could also unpack and repack the vanilla BSAs right? I seem to remember being able to be banned or something for posting the BSA extraction / rebuilding program though :\. Then again that was a really long time ago, so maybe it's okay now. Could've also been a different tool.

Right, I keep forgetting, haha. Go to the PyFFI-Optimized Modules list under optimization and download the QTP3 PyFFI Fixed patch. You can just use OBMM, so... Do not worry about that now. I thought you wanted to be able to play the game. You can PyFFI your meshes yourself again later...

Yeah haha, want to get some playing in before I unpack & repack the vanilla BSAs w/ pyffi. I need to eat, so I turned PyFFI loose on my entire meshes folder. That's not a bad idea, is it? <_<. PyFFI seems to be going pretty slow :\. Then again I'm using Python 2.5, is it multicore or something if I use 3.2? I seem to remember that Bash can't take certain versions higher than 2.5.

For the most part it should be fine, but someone just caught something which I have not posted on my site's PyFFI page.

Files that PyFFI cannot handle. Add the part in quotes to your skip list.

"Skip list?" Whoops.

The skip list is in the oblivion_optimize.ini in the "\PyFFI\utilities\toaster" folder. Add the part in quotes (minus the ".nif" part) to the end of the skip list. Since you are already PyFFI-optimizing everything, just extract that one file out of one of your backup to replace it.

Ah okay, so it automatically uses a pretty good skip list already then? Even though I'm using the right click optimize. I presume its safe to do this on the MMM BSA as well? I ripped that apart and started optimizing.

ED: I fed it the entire BSA / my entire meshes folder. Does PyFFI have issues doing creature / body meshes / etc?

No. The default skip list takes care of the vanilla meshes that need to be skipped. Do not worry about it. Did you use the right-click method?
