Couple noobish questions : Fallout 3

Does this game end when I beat the main quest, or can I continue playing? I've heard conflicting reports about this.

When is the best time to check out the DLC's? Before or after beating the main quest?

Is there any epic type loot, like special unique guns/armor etc? I'm almost to the end of the main quest, level 14, and I haven't run into anything like that.

Spoiler

1) The game ends unless you have the Broken Steel DLC installed.

2) Uh. . .there is no best time. Point Lookout's enemies are pretty tough so you may not want to do that first though.

3) Epic loot? The sneak suit you get after completing Op. Anchorage and Smiling Jack's Terrible Shotgun in the Bazaar at Evergreen Mills.
